Hi everyone, I'm up in Queensland and I've got a small mixed flock of 6 chickens (Australorp, Lohmann Brown, White Leghorn, Salmon Faverolles, Barnevelder and Araucana).

3 of my girls are laying and we're currently collecting almost 1 double yolk a week from my white leghorn - 'Namira'.

My Faverolles and Barnevelder are both just on 8 weeks old and I recently added the Araucana at 4 weeks old, so far these three haven't been added to the coop with the big girls so I'm sure that will be a tricky and eventful operation to look forward to soon

Hi Megan , your an early riser like me. When the sun comes up I have a treat for my chooks. Cooked pasta, 2 x tins of generic sardines, last nights peas and carrots with a couple of raw eggs mixed in to hold it together. They literally try to knock the bucket out of my hands for it.

Okay. Quail people quick question.

My sister has a tiny backyard (think size of a deck) and was wanting to get some quails to put in there. Idea was a cage but let them run wild when she is home to make sure the magpies don't eat them.

Would that work or would they never go back in the cage.

And what would the best type to do something like that.

Oh and also are male quails aggressive?

You can't freerange quails. If you let them out they will be gone. Male quail are can be aggressive to each other if there are too many of them and they are quite noisy in their call if you only have a tiny area.

Thanks for the reply!
That's pretty much exactly what I give them in the mornings haha.. Cooked spaghetti, zucchini, carrot, broccoli and some corn! Never tried sardines? Are they good for chickens?
Also I have read a lot about not giving them raw eggs as it will make them break their own for the taste? Have you ever herd of this or had a problem :)
