My condolences...meanwhile it's all flooded around the Noonamah area up north here...so wet that the egg production is practically nonexistent.
Flooded, I wish. January is normally our wettest month with average 120mm for the month. This month in total we have had 15mm. Thanks it got to 41c yesterday and today is meant to be hotter, It was still 37c at 10pm last night
Sorry the flooding has dropped your egg production though.![]()
Hi All,
Satay, good luck with the heat. Megan, maybe give your non perching chooks a good layer of straw to sleep on? A lot of mine happily lay down on a straw bed each night. Re broodies- I always have at least two brooding nothing (no option 12 is enough!). I do not worry about it anymore, I remove any eggs at least once per day & take them out of box whenever I go down (regardless of the strident objections), then I just wait it out!
Your thoughts on this plan. I have now successfully introduced Fric & Frac (purchased not bred, frizzle babies only 2months old) to one of my groups. They are not accepted of course but have the room to escape the occassional "p--- off peck". As I have the two groups which free range on alternate days, do you feel I could alternate them between the locked up groups? They are much too young to free range.
This would mean they would spend alternate days with each group. Too stressful?? Obviously each night I would place them back into their solo sleeping box. I would not consider it if they did not have each other as company, they obviously stay close together. My coops are pretty large so there is plenty of room.
Nice, so dark. Are they Marans?
Yeah Satays Maran. Lol that sounds weird.
Satay will have to fill us both in on which type (Opps I never asked or really cared !)
YAY more eggs in the Bator
