Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Howdy everyone, de-lurking to say g'day and post some pictures. Speaking of pictures ... I see Luke is adding to the beautiful pictures this thread produces; nice shots Luke! Mine are nowhere near the high standard but they give you the idea! :) 2 Weeks and 2 days old. I have some gender guesses on these little ones, 3 boys, 1 girl and a I'm stumped lol. Any other guesses are most welcome :-D This is Blondie who has some serious clown shoes going on. She does not join in any of the chest-bumping games. My guess is pullet ..... This one's guess is rooster: This one has me stumped; occasionally joins in the chest-bumping game but nowhere near as much as the 3 I have picked as roosters ..... Guess = rooster on these two little dark ones................
The chest bumping is not gender specific. Pullets will do it too. If you watch them long enough you will see that when one of them is zooming around it is more of a defence mechanism when they come back to the group. It's more of a 'shove me shove you ' thing, at this age. Looking at the combs and the redness I'd say the little dark ones are Roos.

Hello

and thanks.

They are all a bit young to tell age now. You can have a guess but it's not going to be 100%. Also chest bumping can be an indicator of sex but again at this age not gender specific.
My White Leghorns roosters ( 9 weeks old ) have now started flaring their hackles and having a go at each other.

Thank you Fancychooklady :)
I have watched them heaps, borderline stalking lol. They are just sooo cute to watch. They zoom around everywhere at a million miles an hour. I had so much trouble getting them to stand still for a picture. Note the water feeder in most of the pictures? That is nearly the only time I could catch them not moving :) Yeah, I have noted that the chest-bumping occurs when they come back together. My guesses were on comb size also and as you mention, it is not looking good for the little dark ones being keepers. I am so hoping Blondie is a pullet as I really want to keep her and at least one of the blue/grey ones so that I can keep at least two so they have a sibling.

Howdy Luke :)

Yeah, just guesses .. definitely not making any decisions at this age.
PS. Those Silkies of mine are 5 months and 1 week old tomorrow and still no signs of gender. I think the number one requirement of Silkie owners has to be patience! lol

They are very young , but I think you will have a few pullets in there. :fl

I have had my giggle for the morning. I just had a lady looking for some hatching eggs in brissy. I sent her a pm to say I had marans eggs and the price. She wanted to know if they would stay warm enough all day if hubby had them in the car at work and then in the shed. I said warm enough ? She thought she could buy eggs that would be ready to hatch like in a day or so.... Shouldn't laugh at newbies really but that one was funny. I explained the way hatching works and she quickly went off line.

:lau. How funny
