Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Luckily I've only had to battle lice and mites once and got rid of them. I just removed all litter, hosed it out completely and sprayed the whole coop with a generic insect spray while the girls were out free ranging in the yard (yes, I removed water and food). Put some ivermectin on their back and no issue since.

Hope you have some success soon Lucas.

Here's the progress of my Dorking's eye - words cannot express how happy I am she's almost all better. She went back in the main coop last night.

What was wrong with your poor chick? It looks very similar to a problem I'm having with my Silkie. Vet said it could be viral and gave me meds but the eye is still completely scabbed over. (Have been medicating since Tuesday).

I had something similar with one of mine. I put Chlorsig antibiotic drops in the eye and it cleared up . Chlorsig is available over the counter at the chemist. I've also used it in a badly infected goats eye with great success.

Thanks K-spot. Glad your hen is getting better

I'm not 100% sure what was wrong with her. At first I thought she has sustained trauma to the eye (another hen pecking her or something like that), then I thought she may have had a sinus infection. I guess I'll never know as I never took her to the vet.

It was pussy and smelly there for a while, and weepy too and as you can see from the pic, was swollen and her third eyelid was angry, red and completely covering the eye. I was putting chlorsig into it and fed her up with a mix if scrambled eggs, livamol, AVC, garlic, sardines and coconut oil everyday.

I thought she was going to lose the eye completely, but happy to say it's there, just cloudy looking.

This message if for everyone:

My Frizzle hen is laying great guns ( better than my Leghorns at the moment ) and I have already saved up my half dozen off her eggs that I want to hatch, but I don't want to eat the rest of the eggs she is laying.

So, is anyone interested in test hatching her eggs for me? Of course the eggs themselves will be free, I will just ask that you pay for postage. I will do a proper job at packaging and posting in the hopes you get the best result.
The offspring of this will be lovely white Frizzled Leghorns. Some of the offspring will have pea combs, others straight and SOME will have ROSECOMBS.
I have already had one pullet hatch for this cross and she is a friendly and lovely looking bird.
Also, this is a Frizzle cross so you may indeed get some flat feathered birds.

I can only do half a dozen as it's only one laying. This should take 6-8 days to collect up

Of course it will be first in best dressed, BUT I am looking at giving @satay , @Ashburnham , @Fancychooklady , @K Spot , @Teila , @megacakes , @rexy , @Bens-Hens , @IamSamSam and @SydneyChickens first as I know them the most and they are always on this thread

, so if either of these people don't want them or can't have them then they will be open to everyone else. ( No offense to the others ).
