Thanks They hatched from blue eggs so the genes are there but recessive. The breeder is to send more eggs so we can try again.
No - The blue egg gene is dominant. You only need one copy of that gene for the hen to lay blue eggs. If the hen is laying brown eggs it has zero copies of that gene.
It would have had to have come from a parent with a single copy as you say it hatched from a blue egg, but must have been bred to a rooster with no copy of the gene.
Peacomb is not a good indicator as other breeds have a pea comb but don't lay blue eggs.
