Had a sneaky candle of the remaining 11 eggs under Bubbles - all are developing! So with luck, I should have 11 little babies next week

So that is what happens if you give 12 (non-posted & fertilised) eggs to a slender breed. I suspect 2 hatched on the 11th (due date), 4 on the 12th & another 4 yesterday. Lesson learnt. I've also discovered that Snowy does a remarkable turkey impression. She is a very possessive mum. And of course she has dug hay out of the one place with bare dirt & is showing the chicks.

It seems that Snowy has had enough of crumble & is determined to dig up some food. The chicks are spending ALL their time following her around & not eating out of their food container, so I don't imagine they are getting much sustenance. I just had to pull a huge bit of hay out of a chicks beak that would probably have killed it if it had been swallowed & seen her back kick a chick twice in her digging spree. I also don't think they have had a single nap. Is this normal for a mother hen, because right now I feel like taking at least the youngest ones away from her?

That's all fairly normal behavior. A plate of scrambled egg should satisfy snowy. I would be more worried about the sand blocking them up. I elevate the feed bowl with 2 or 3 house bricks. Just helps to keep the bedding and feed separate. In a week or so a big slice of water melon or half a rock melon will help to keep everyone entertained.

Yep agree with fancy all normal. My three week old bator babies free range all day and hardly eat starter til late in the evenings.

The Two Araucanas pullets that have only been laying since April are both broody. Had to turf them off the neat and turned the boxes upside down. That sent them outside so hoping

Satay woo hoo at the pips ... we have peeping but I have no idea what is going on under there!! Blondie is a first time mum and very very protective so not messing with her at all. Not too worried about getting nipped; more concerned about upsetting her. Definitely need patience with this little gal.
