Not sure where on the northside tou are but there's a poultry day at the Betta produce at burpengary tomorrow
I'm still on the fence about going, we wanna get another chicken or two

Do you guys think it would be worth it or safer to get them from somewhere else?
I found a lady on gumtree selling her two silkies and I have been eyeing them off...

Hey Jellyballoo :)

Thank you for the heads-up, I am only 13kms North of Brisbane.

Just my humble opinion but I believe any chicken bought into your flock may be a risk, regardless of where you got it from and would need to go through the quarantine process. Having said that, when I only had two chickens and one sadly passed away, the other one was so very lonely and I bought her a friend and introduced them pretty much straight away. I still have them both.

But, I am now more cautious as I have a lot more to lose

If I was to bring in new chickens now I would definitely quarantine them.

Again, just my personal opinion, but if you do purchase them from 'someone' rather than a poultry day, you will probably get a better history and also have made a contact you can recontact, whereas at a market etc, you may never see that person again or have no means of contacting them should you need to

I know some people that will be there selling chickens. My advice would be pay attention to the bird you are buying. Check for leg mites, lice and any signs of illness. A good breeder wont have a problem with you checking them over first. If you decide to buy quarantine any new birds away from your flock for a month.

I'll be there tomorrow. : ) Not to buy though, just to look. I'm only 10 chicks over my limit at the moment, although I'm sure chicks don't count and slender breeds count for less towards the limit than a larger breed of chicken.

So 2*0.75 + 3*1 = I'm still fine.

Bahaha!
That's a good theory cwrite

Will there be many POL silkies you think?
I have my heart set on two silkies now lol

4 would be my limit of chickens though... Thought originally I said just two, then I thought oh what's one more and now I don't want a lonely silkie so 4 it is haha

I like your maths, by that my bantams only count as half a chook so I can have 1 1/2 more than I'd realised! Yay!

You are tempting me to maybe drive up for a peek; but I just don't trust myself! Hubby doesn't trust me either

It probably is a bit of drive just for a look and I believe hubby has plans to drag the pool out of the shed and fill it.

Chicks do not count!

I am allowed 6 hens here. I have 5 adults but they are bantams so they only count as 2.5 and 4 chicks who don't count at all so I am fine also

Just need more land for a bigger coop! I need to move! lol
