Do you need frozen water bottles when it gets to 15c

I'm discovering the downside to hatching chicks. My DD has fallen in love with the runt of the hatch and possibly the only ugly chick of the lot.

Please let it be a boy.

We entertain here, do seed exchange and have drinks in the garden.. I never thought box wine would go over very well, but for the price.. Just about 2-3 people in our community on every block has chickens.. Now we are working on getting nationally recognized threw the National Wildlife Federation.. You can see the green metal plaque in part of our garden.. Not a wino either, much prefer beer.. Just wondered if people in your area had this particular wine, being from Australia?
1000

I could ask my sil next time I see her she is big into wine. Does it say which part of oz it's from on the box?

No, only "imported & bottled by universal wine network Ripon, California"
Most of the other wine's from around the world will have the vineyard listed on the bottle.. It could be called Block Red vineyard? Not sure..

Here in Aus, there are big stainless steel vats that they mix wine from different vineyards together. Its then used in casks or as we call it ' chateau cardboard '
At $2.50 a bottle it might be worth a try for the next barbi .

I like the idea of misty sprinklers, but worry that it encourages bacteria to flourish.  Is that a risk or does it get so hot that it just evaporates?
I've also been wondering how nipple feeders work in extreme heat.  I bought a few, but considering that the water in my hosepipe feels hot, I wonder if the water in a narrow pipe would be the same.  Does anyone use them?

The misty sprinklers are no different to using any garden watering system. If you run it all day you end up with puddles but if just on and off the ground just stays damp.

I have a short piece of black poly pip cable tied to my fence behind their favourite shady spot. On those super hot days when temps jump way above the norm I put on a timer that turns it on for 10 minutes every hour. It's amazing how much cooler it makes it. If you were doing it all the time even on regular hot days maybe it would be a bacterial worry but I try to only do it on the super hot ones. I think you need to let them adapt naturally to normal hot days themselves so they can cope better with super hot with help.

When we visited Vegas years ago they actually had them outside the motel so you stood under these misters as you waited for your car. :)

I don't use the nipples, rather cups on the same type of system. You have to make sure your pipe work is running in shady areas or yes it would. I have mine connected to one of those drums they use for home brew and I can drop blocks of water frozen in small plastic cups in the top so it helps keep that cool too. Would probably depend how far the tube runs from the drum how icy cool it is by the time it gets to the cups though but even without the ice mine has never reached a point it wasn't drinkable but my pipe runs in deep shade. Just thinking it would probably work to wrap something around your pipe to insulate it from the heat on its way to the cups too.

I've nearly lost pets over the years from knocked over, to forgotten to refill, to even took it out to fill and got sidetracked playing and forgot to put it back water containers that I love the peace of mind this gives me. I still have Other regular water bowls here and there as it's backup but I like knowing if all else fails this is there for them.

Thanks Appps. Some great ideas for me to play with.
