Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

1 Dropped dead after the race and the other broke a leg.

anyway I made some scrambled eggs (was making crumbed chops from scratch so just cooked the egg mixture and put the shell in too) gave it to the girls. The brown one which I suspect is the no shell girl pretty much wrestled them all despite being the lowest in pecking order and scoffed majority of it. Would that be a good sign she needs the calcium or she just really likes scrambled eggs?

Hey AussieChics yep, the gals regulate their own calcium intake and seem to know if/when they need it. Having said that, she may also just be greedy and love eggs ... I would think a bit of both

I feed my gals FF with a side salad of some description. The FF I just put in one bowl in the run and they eat it throughout the day. The side salad is always more popular and disappears long before the FF and I put in two bowls of it. Specifically so that the matriarch and 2IC do not scoff it all and not leave any for those lower on the ladder. It is quite amusing to watch the matriarch try and keep everyone away from the two bowls. In the end I think she probably ends up getting less than everyone else because she spends the majority of the time running between the two squawking "mine, mine, mine; it's all mine!"

Lol, my daughter has picked that one because it has the same bloodlines as her new off the track.
It's 201-1. I told her this one would stand a better chance.

Sorry to hear the race horses died. Geez! What are the chances of that?!? The Kentucky Derby is a huge deal in my neck of the woods. Everyone gets fancy hats and makes their bets. Traffic is nuts for miles just waiting to get to the race track.

FF is fermented feed.

I think it's not that uncommon for horses to keel over after races, it's quite a big shock for the system. And horses are among the easiest animals to kill. They easily develop infections from the smallest of bruises even.

I don't support horse racing , but many elite athletes even marathon runners suffer heart attacks and the second horse had run it's race and a spectator waved a flag in his face that caused him to spook through a metal barrier. Yes Felix , horses are poorly designed, a simple tummy ache will send them in to a bout of colic and have them in a life or death situation. Our oldest pony Rosie coliced last weekend. We took turns of walking her well into the night until she pooped and her tummy settled down. At aus champs a horse died in front of my daughter and while she and all the other girls were very upset , she couldn't help but notice how upset her horse was by the incident.
