You all know I love my snakes. Just outside to get some water to water my lillypilly plants when out the corner of my eye I see a snake slithering behind me. I step back and the snake goes into the garden behind me. I step a little closer to see what type it is. It's only about as thick as my middle finger and about half a metre long. It's a young red bellied black... My first red bellied I have seen out here in all this time. I stand watching it for a little bit when it slithers out of the garden and right past me across the grass probably 20cm away from me it paused right in front of me for a few seconds and went into the other garden. Pretty cool experience for me. Yes I know before you all say it I"m mad but it was not the least bit interested in harming me nor me harming it. I love to see snakes living in the wild as they should do. Deadly or not. I would never harm one unless it was absolutely necessary

Me and this little fella don't like snakes (brown snakes)



On friday morning he collapsed out of his chair and was meowing very weakly. Paralysis slowly took hold of him throughout the rest of the morning and he lost his voice. Spoke to several vets and the diagnosis was a snake bite. Anyway I've nursed him over the weekend, it looked pretty dire friday night. I thought he was a gonner for sure. But he clung on and I can gladly say that paralysis seems to be wearing off and he's talking and eating again. The worst parts over and I reckon he'll make a full recovery,

I like carpet snakes, we have a whole family living around the house....

Sorry your cat was bitten. It sounds more like a tick to me than a snake. Paralysis and loss of voice is some of the first symptoms you will see in a cat affected by a tick. I have not heard of too many cats being bitten by snakes and surviving. If it was a snake he sure is one lucky little fella. I understand why people don't like snakes for sure especially if they have had an animal bitten or lost to a snake but i try to remember that is this their home too and they were here before we were. If a snake was about to attack one of my pets would i kill it... Sure I would..

An eastern brown bit my kitty and she died from it even with 2 vials of antivenom. I don't hold a grudge though. I love snakes.
