We use the off cuts of the black ag drain pipe around the base of our trees to stop the rabbits ring barking them. I also put chicken wire around the roots to stop the chooks digging them up. They love plum and nectarine trees too. A free feed is always a good feed.

The chicks are 4 weeks old today and I took them to a friend to get vaccinated for Coryza and Fowl Pox.
I'm 90% certain I have 2 Cuckoo Faverolles roos, 1 Black Faverolles pullet and 2 Araucana pullets.
While I was at my friends, I swapped one of the roos for a Columbian NN frizzle pullet and a Silver Pencilled Rock pullet and roo

So I went there with 5 and left with 7. I'm very bad with chicken maths

Check for swelling around the navel, the first week of any chicks life is fraught with danger. I give all the slow ones this feed. You can buy it at most pet shops and it will restore the chicks appetite . Scrambled egg are also high in protein.

Just a random question - I've had some chickens for a few months, live in central vic where it gets ridiculously hot over summer - how do others in hot climates keep them going?!

Around her navel is fine. I have a funny feeling cause we think it's been hot 30-40c that I think it may not be hot enough for her. Not realising that inside the house stays relatively cool. took her out into the sun today, she just laid down. Put a heat lamp on for her, plus a little cooked googy egg. Although, I thought she was dead at one stage, legs stretched out behind her, flat on the floor of her box, touched her and she just jumped up and started eating and drinking again So heat lamp on tonight again for her, even Sethy's poodle is on chickie patrol for me so I can get some sleep lol as if, I'll be up several times checking on her

I have set up some shade cloth and garden sprays for mine it has a timer, set to turn on once every hour just to wet the shade cloth to cool them down

Well today's the day! A pleasant 24 c forecast and I have 360 people walking my garden today. I've been up since sparrow fart , doing those last minute things.
The ponies are ready , momma hen and babies are looking their absolute cutest for those city folks. I've even trained the wild baby ducklings to eat from your hand. Should be a great day.
