Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

AussieChics that would have been so cute to see! I hope the cat's friends were not looking on, (s)he will never live that one down!

I thought I had better add something with regards to my earlier post and the water pistol as someone may be reading it and think "how cruel".

Just wanted to clarify that we are talking about a $4 water pistol with about as much punch as a spit. The majority of the time it was shot in front of them to veer them off target (Blondie) and I would never do anything to hurt my gals!

Oh great - I was hoping to move the boys along before they crowed! They are 6 weeks old and all but one have some red. There is quite a difference between their sizes, body shape and legs. If they take up to 9 months to mature it looks like I might be in for a long wait or be unable to avoid the odd crower. They are too young to have their pointy neck feathers yet so it looks like a bit more waiting for me. Next time, a long time away, I'm not putting so many eggs under a broody hen for sure. I feel a bit over run with small birds atm.

It won't be 9 months - mine are showing secondary sexual characteristics at 12 weeks, and they start laying at 21 -22 weeks.

That's a relief @Ashburnham . I've just been researching what age the pointy hackle feathers grow but it's hard to find breed specific info, particularly for this breed & there's the inevitable discussion that it's not an araucana because it has a tail. 12 weeks or a crow is my 'new' limit for keeping all of them.

Sadly it didn't stick around for long, but rain is due about monday I believe.
I'm between Cowra and Young, things are very dry at the moment and there's alot of fuel about. A fire would be potentially catastrophic.
Grass is very crunchy and dead out here, clouds are coming over this morning, fingers crossed.
Just checked the storm tracker and looks like you should be getting "some" rain as I type this :)
I am hoping you are :)

Actually I was thinking how clever. I use a hose on the boys if they get a little carried away. A blast right near them usually settles things down.
