Cwrite lol at your undercover chick stalker!

Ashburnham … Adorable! Congratulations.

Quick update from here … Spot is still looking for a new home.

And, some more of the fine print I did not read:

You will be woken at 04:43am by adolescent, randy rooster trying to do the deed on his not so impressed mother and moody matriarch picking on recently reintegrated daughter!

After two consecutive, no fight, supervised free ranges on which the CTD was not required, Blondie got to sleep with the main flock last night for the first time since the hatch.

Cilla obviously woke up on the wrong side of the roost and I was woken by Blondie’s protests at being bashed and Tina’s absolute horror at her son trying to mount her!

I was working on site yesterday so hubby was in charge of keeping an eye on the gals. Well, we had a visitor .. a bush turkey! Apparently Tina freaked out! She was fine yesterday morning when I left but when I got home, about 45 mins after the bush turkey visit, she was looking ‘unwell’. She was mopping and not interested in eating. The bubs were running around the garden without her.

Hubby and I both thought that she was a bit freaked by this feathered intruder which apparently was about three times bigger than them and hoped that she would be better in the morning.

This morning, she is still moping. She does not appear unwell as such, no symptoms. Crop is fine, poops are OK, she is drinking but not eating much. She is not laying at the moment because even though she has bubs, she has decided to be broody also.

There were all due for a worm about 4 weeks ago but it had been too hot; not so hot today so I have taken the opportunity to worm them.

Anyways, I do not know if she is unwell or maybe still suffering the effects of the fright from the bush turkey and also the added stress of her little man’s unwanted advances.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I am sorry to hear about Tina. I am not sure. I would keep an eye on her. Maybe she is just over the intrusion and the son's efforts at mounting her. Oh I wish we had bush turkeys out here. We used to have them everywhere when I lived in Paddington many years ago.

I don't know either @Teila, sorry. Maybe she is just moping. Hope she comes right soon.
Let me know if you have any success with your roo sale. I'm trying to work out how to advertise mine so that they don't attract anyone wanting pet food. I can't be fussy, but at the same time I want them to have a chance. Free to anyone that can prove they have chooks & not meat eating pets?

Hey there cwrite, thank you. Tina is no worse and if anything a bit perkier so I am thinking she is moping; intruders and naughty little roosters have probably put her in a bad mood.

I will see what she is like on the free range this afternoon. If something is ailing her health wise, I have no idea what.

Over 200 people have looked at 'Spots' ad and 2 have responded but it was a bit far for them to travel; I am thinking I may have more luck on the weekend.

This is definitely my humble opinion but I think more details in the ad convey that you are serious about finding a good home.

I believe if you put *4 x baby roosters free to good home*, your pet food opportunists are going to see it and think "4 x roosters, desperate to get rid of them, maybe doesn't care where they go".

I believe 'Spot's' ad {below} would not be as attractive to pet food scouts as it hopefully portrays someone who is seriously looking for a good home and not just trying to off load them; therefore, not someone they are interested in dealing with as they do not want the probable third degree they will get

Also, if possible, just advertise one, pet food scouts are not going to be too bothered with one, but if they can pick up four meals in one hit, more tempting for them.

If your boys all look similar, place an ad for one with one picture and then leave it running until you have found homes for all of them

I found a wonderful home for Tommy, using a similar method, talked about him a bit in the ad etc.

Current Ad (PS. I had a lady text me and say that she not interested in a pet rooster, but just wanted to say what a lovely and funny ad it was and wish me luck in finding 'Spot' a home

Free to Good Home - Silkie Rooster (pet quality)

It is with a heavy heart I place this ad. From the day 'Spot' hatched I had everything crossed that he was going to be a she because I cannot have roosters. After living in denial about the size of his comb and wattles, I can live in denial no more as 'Spot' has found his crow!

So 'Spot' now needs to find a new, good home.

'Spot' is a pet quality Silkie with a single comb but what he lacks in quality he makes up for in looks and chickenality; he is a beautiful little boy and a sweetheart to match.

If you are able to give 'Spot' a loving home, please send me a message or give me a call. So the neighbours do not get cranky with me, I need to rehome 'Spot' ASAP and therefore, cannot hold him for any period of time.

Edited to Add: 'Spot' has been a very naughty boy and if I hadn't placed this add, his mum would have. This morning he thought it would be fun to practice his 'rooster skills' on her and she was not impressed!

"Hoping someone is able to give 'Spot' a loving home very soon". Signed: Spot's mum!

Many thanks
Teila

I hope you find him a nice home, Teila.

The family I sold a RIR quad to from my last hatch are probably going to dispatch the rooster soon. He is getting far too loud for them. At first when I sold the quad I told them not to kill him, that I would try to find him another home, but since it has been a few months now, I've had a change of heart and it doesn't bother me any more if they decide to eat him.

for you Teila and cwrite!

Teilah, I love your ad!! I hope you find Spot a good home soon.

Those tomatoes are looking delicious Sam. Yummo.
I'm looking forward to the end of summer, so I can get started on my own veg gardens again. The poor things have been so neglected this year.

Guess what I woke up to at 4am this morning.... Our first chick hatching!!
That's right, THEY STARTED HATCHING!!!
EEEEEEEEEEEEE :ya :weee :ya

One Barnevelder and two Australorps have made it out so far.
Just hoping like heck that more of the Barnies make it through too.

@FreeRanging Hen - very cute pics

@Teila thanks for the suggestion. I think homing them one by one is a good idea. Other pets have to eat too, I just don't want it to be someone I know.

Sam, gotta love those self seeding tomatoes. : ) I used my run litter to fill several pots and am having various squashes and corn popping up like crazy. No prizes for guessing what the chooks beak out & don't eat.
