If that Araucana is a hen I would suggest breeding it back to a different colour,
as it may have "fragile Feather" problems (caused by breeding Lav to Lav too often).
Also choose a roo that is " 'over crested"and well muffed and bearded, as this one lacks both.

If she's lucky, she may meet the silkie rooster or the barred rock one, assuming that the barred rock cockrel grows up to be a gentleman. I don't have any Araucana roosters!

I'm currently running math in my head on how many more hens I "have" (>.>) to get before I can get an Araucana rooster because I don't want my hens overwhelmed by too many roosters.

Yeah, that's it.

I can just see this conversation...

Me: Honey - we -need- to get 10 more chickens or the girls will be -totally- overwhelmed by the presence of our new hypothetical rooster.
Husband: You could just, you know, not get another rooster.
Me: Shhh, you're making crazy sounds.

I have an araucana (possibly x pekin there was some leg feathering that got pecked off) I can't get rid of if you want it

Heh, that would be enabling!

I actually would like to experiment with breeding, but I simply don't have an appropriate setup, and I also don't have much of a clue of what I am doing, so while I don't mind producing mutts, I'd be very wary about trying anything with purebreeds. I'd probably be getting them all incorrect.

That said, the araucana's personality is very sweet, and she cuddles, so maybe I could try borrowing a rooster with possible corrections to her faults sometime from someone, I don't know if anyone does that though! She does have a very nice personality and is docile and can be easily handled while dozing off.

I have no idea how I would obtain a chicken from Queensland without driving for a few days. :/

This is sort of the stage I'm at. My chickens are all crossbreeding madly. At some point when my husband's gotten over the PTSD of building our coop I'm hoping to get him to build a few isolation pens so I can experiment with purebreeds and custom crossbreeds but as of right now he's "over the idea of building things". Pity, the coop is totally wicked sweet.

I love my goofy little lavender araucana. She's got a great big mop of fluff on her head that doesn't obscure her frontal or side vision but TERRIBLY obscures her "up" vision so if I bend over to pat her she is so surprised she freaks out. XD

Also, reminded while looking at breed typing...in this thread I can voice my small pet peeve.

It's WATTLES, not 'waddles'.

It's almost as bad as when Americans pronounce my Celtic name with a soft 'S' sound instead of a hard 'K' sound, ahhhhhh!

I have 5 breeding pens of Araucanas, so always have extra roosters at "give away" prices.

I also have a spare roo, but unfortunately he could be your pullets twin so not a good match to improve feathering and headgear.

I've been trying to find a home for this little guy (13weeks) for ages, but no takers yet. I've had so many views but just window shopping. Fortunately he still honks instead of crows so I don't think the neighbours have worked out what that noise is.

I had a fellow chicken keeping friend over this afternoon & right in front of us, an extremely soft egg fell out of Stampy who stood on it and everyone immediately dived in and ate the thing.

The first time it's ever happened! Time to change my feed. Supplementing with calcium clearly isn't working.
