Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I also have a spare roo, but unfortunately he could be your pullets twin so not a good match to improve feathering and headgear.

I've been trying to find a home for this little guy (13weeks) for ages, but no takers yet. I've had so many views but just window shopping. Fortunately he still honks instead of crows so I don't think the neighbours have worked out what that noise is.

I had a fellow chicken keeping friend over this afternoon & right in front of us, an extremely soft egg fell out of Stampy who stood on it and everyone immediately dived in and ate the thing.

The first time it's ever happened! Time to change my feed. Supplementing with calcium clearly isn't working.
Oh mah gahd he's beautiful. O.O I'm not concerned about Henny Zee Penny's headgear. It doesn't seem to bother her, but you're right - they have similar floof.

Looking more like a drowned ra-...er, dinosaur.

Yesterday I took over a dozen eggs away from a coronation sussex hen, there were some really bad smelling ones in there. She's been sitting so long and one had exploded under her. Today I caught her ' tidbiting ' to chicken littles lone chick. This SLW chick is 3 weeks old and out of desperation my coro hen is trying to steal her. Later in the day I watched her feeding both the chick and chicken little.
Lucky little chick now has 2 mommas. :love

Good morning Folks

Lots of informative and helpful information … thank you :)

For what it is worth, I have an irrational fear of Christmas Beetles!

krista74 you have a lovely looking flock. Sorry to read of yours and tandykins' drama-weeks; I recently had a week or so from H#ll which nearly broke me .. hang in there, it gets better!

satay congratulations on the hatch and congratulations on finding a home for your Araucana pair K Spot.

Purpleseabreeze
welcome!

appps good stuff on the coop reno. I loved reading about your little “baby”.

Steampunked beautiful picture of your Silkie after her spa-day. I am resisting the temptation to climb onto my soap box regarding the rooster v noisy neighbours but I hear ya and I am definitely on your side. Screaming adults, screaming children, barking dogs, loud stereos etc etc but I cannot have a rooster! Congrats on the Araucana and French Wheaten Maran; they are gorgeous!

Fancy had a good chuckle at your hero V snake tale also. Aaaaw at your desperate Coro

Tandykins your little rooster is a cutie .. loved the story of his OCD and “throwing the baby out with the bathwater”.

Hey Luke welcome back!

And, after all that, I got nothing! No news of note! Zip!

Blondie is still trying to break me as opposed to me breaking her and I am now outnumbered two to one as her mum, Cilla, has decided to cross over to the dark-side also!

When Blondie is broody she picks on LuLu and when Cilla is broody she picks on Blondie!

I currently have Blondie and Cilla attempting to wear out the grass around the coop and run as they do circuits trying to break in. Occasionally they meet in the middle with lots of puffing up and screeching and then back to circuit work! Meanwhile Dusty & LuLu potter around the garden, occasionally rolling their eyes and muttering “Dem broodies sure do be crazy!”

So im a bit concerned about how im going to fit all my chickens in the coops. The babies are growing fast.

if the chicks bump each other is that a chick thing or a rooster thing? I really need to start selling some formore room lol but I want my hens. I think starting to get a bit pink in the comb area. They are nearly 4 weeks. I know I'm going to have a hard time sexing the silkies ;-(

The girls bump too as I remember seeing ours do that as chicks and we have only ever had one rooster.

X2 on the chest bumping. The silkies are by far the hardest to sex. I can make an educated guess at 6-8 weeks, but i hang on to them a bit longer , just to be certain when selling them. Don't want any disgruntled customers.

Ha! Thank you! He's very concerned with tidiness. Now if only I could figure out why he sounds more like a cow than a chicken. Odd chicken voice? He seems perfectly healthy. I will try to take video today.

It's hatching day! (or thereabouts). If I've done my math right (this time >.>) it should be 21 days today. We found one quitter and heard cheeping in the other eggs so it should not be long now! My brooding Wyandotte (name: Buttface) is now sort of hovering over the eggs rather than sitting on them. We've set up a brooder just in case (paranoia) and I am now trying not to freak my chickens out too much by checking on them constantly.

(OMG, privacypls)

Protip: Umbrellas are apparently terrifying to chickens. One of my hens ran into a wall repeatedly to escape me while I was using one.
