My Frizzles did not get that memo either; they roost with everyone else.

Aaaaw Fancy I wouldn’t have the heart to turf mumma possum out either.

The rain coats are still on the coop and runs; the washing is piling up and by the look of the radar, will not get done today; sadly, free range might be out of the question at 4pm also.

Mostly sunny predicted for Thursday, Friday and Saturday so time to catch up on the washing.

Not sure how well its shows the difference as it had been raining and the eggs are wet but left is fw egg and right is bw egg.

Oh wow the hens are a full solid colour (not including shades). I thought they had a brown/coppery band around their necks.
They look very nice
Well my FW Marans (only one is laying) is that colour egg so they look pretty good to me.

They do have a brown band around the front of their necks but i couldn't get one to keep her head up long enough to get it in the picture.

Finally got hold of some polish girls for archie (my standard polish roo.) They are bantys but hes really gentle and fine with my other bantams so should be ok. Im a backyard breeder no shows here so...whatever lol. So excited. They turn up in a couple of weeks! Also. All 3 of my australorps are laying! Sparkles has laid 4 eggs including todays 83gm foubdo yolker (poor bugger) and merry lays the roundest egg I've ever seen. All of my 9 laying girls have been slack in the extreme lately as we've had constant rain for 3 weeks 1-2 eggs per day. 2 days of sunshine then poof! Its on for young and old over the nest boxes and i got 5 eggs yesterday.

I got a couple of slackers an araucana (still to lay her first egg) and a silkie my Banty roo is busy servicing all the hens including the big girls. My marans chick are getting bigger and those pics of marans eggs are gorgeous color

My araucana was 10mths old before her 1st egg. I have 2 more here that still havent laid and one of them is mearly that old the other maybe a tiny bit younger. Hoping both will get their lay on after winter. My aussies started at 5 months and 6 months. Silkies can take up to a year i heard

My araucana is only 8 months old so I guess I'm waiting some more. My silkie is a pre loved hen about 16 months old noticed today that she had scaly legs so I treated her and the rest of the flock.

Hay have all your FWM's taken noticeably longer than other breeds to lay their first egg?
I was told by one person that I should expect my Marans to begin laying more at 25-30 weeks old rather than the 'usual' of 18-20 of many breeds.

My marans seem to lay from 19 weeks on but the ones I have sold as babies seem to take longer so people tell me. @K Spot has a baby from my eggs she hatched that just started laying so she could tell you better how old it is.

Congrats on finding some new ladies. Don't you hate having to wait for them to arrive lol, I am sure your wait will be worth it.
