Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Put some calcium carbonate in a bowl in the coop. What is the calcium level in their feed ?

3.45% http://www.thevellagroup.com.au/Technical Sheets/Technical Sheet Poultry Supreme.pdf

I'm wondering if it's come from Carl and is a by product of her malnutrition. I weighed her yesterday and she has gone from 1.4kg up to 1.8 so getting there but I can still feel her breast bone so she has a way to go yet. (I know she weighed 1.8 as a pullet) Her calcium levels would have got low when she wasn't eating.
All I had was some shell grit from the cockatiel so mixed a bit into her morning feed. I'll have to go to the pet store and get some calcium carbonate.

Sorry my iPad is mucking up.
You are probably right about Carl. Shell grit isn't any good for calcium levels. She may or may not take the calcium carbonate and 3.45% is quite high.
Vitamin D3 and phosphorus levels impact the calcium absorption rates.
Fresh air and sunshine will help. In the meantime a little milk added to porridge or natural yogurt.

Hooray for hatchings @satay

Ugh does anyone follow Higgins Stom Chasing on FB? Predicting record low temps next week - I'm wondering how the girls will fair in the freezing cold and what I should do to try and keep them at least a bit warm? Living in Qld, I never thought I'd have to say that!

Yep, looks like the weather is set to ' nose dive ' . Chickens do quite well in the cold. Just be sure they have plenty of shelter and food.

I don't know about saving the chickens but I am thinking about saving myself  I have already told @IamSamSam That I am legging it onto a plane down to her house next week if it gets too cold and she has a nice warm fire place.

There's no shortage of those, Fancy. My coop though is a bit 'open' so to speak so it's not insulated very well. I just worry about Whoopi on her eggs all by herself being so small and also the bantam rock pullet.

Oh well, looks like warm porridge mash for everyone in the mornings!

I wish we had a fireplace at home.
