Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

The inlaws were saying it's been -7 overnight in Canberra. Brrrrrr. I'm going to stick with my 4c feels like 2.5 thank you very much!

Being a qlder i can never quite fathom how anyone would want to live in canberra. My current temp is 6c feels like 3.8c. I'll take that too

I just had a look on weather zone and for Gatton which is 35km away but the only place they measure out here (we can be up to 2c cooler in winter ) the recorded lowest temp for this month was -5.6c in 1972.. Hmmm. Pass....

Fancy that first frosty pic I had to look at twice; I thought it was a cracked window and then realised it was a frozen web .. beautiful pics but you can keep the temperatures required to take them

Anniebee Thankfully we were not woken by the sounds of a Henster this morning. Dusty has not laid for 8 days but, being bantams, all of my girls are a bit sporadic when it comes to laying and frequently take long breaks.

Tee hee at “3 fat chickens”. I always chuckle at my gals in the afternoon. I take out any of the food they have not eaten in the run during the day and pop it on the lawn; they all come running over and hoe into it like it hasn’t been available all day

This morning Blondie was just standing there, no interest in breakfast [or going all ninja chicken on the broom!

], looking a little puffed up .. I was a little concerned but all standard health checks appeared OK. She perked up 30 minutes or so later and has been scratching around and also visiting the nest box and chowing down on the shell grit. I think she is going to lay her first egg after being broody and moulting but I am also keeping a very close eye on her just in case that first egg is causing her problems.

Cilla laid her second egg after her ‘being a mumma’ break and it was so cute to see her in the nest box with KiKi snuggled up next to her and Crystal perched on the edge watching .. I reckon I could see Cilla thinking “Gees, can’t a Mum lay an egg in peace?!”. The bubs are nearly 4 months old!

I hope everyone copes with those arctic winds predicted to hit soon.

Hhhhm, I showed your frozen web to the Tent Spider we have had living near the gazebo for the past 8 months or so; she has survived many torrential downpours/floods and strong winds. While she was very appreciative of your kind offer, there were some rumblings along the lines of just what you could do with Mr Jack Frost and frozen webs!

Me? I am inclined to agree with her .. thanks, but no thanks

I was having a chuckle with a colleague in Tassie today and I asked her if she was "freezing yet?". She replied "Nah, it's not that cold; we just tell everyone that it is so that Tassie can stay peaceful and tranquil and everyone moves to Qld" lol

Well maybe someone can help me here. Every night after free range everyone puts them self to be except the isa's, the newest to the flock. I thought everyone was happy together, but this is what I find when I go to check at night (tonight)

Lily and Petunia at my back door beside the dogs bed. At first it was just Lily, one night was even this that greeted me

Plus lily actually on the step beside the dog (just out of view) like I said it seems like they have formed one flock, they seem happy together yet don't go to bed all together every night.
This is what im concerned about though

She never roosts with the others after free range, she still looks as scruffy as when I got her, worse even, but I've never seen anyone picking on her or any wounds, I don't know her age. She's now stopped laying, her eggs were smaller and lighter shelled than the other isas. Otherwise she's happy, eating drinking normal poo. Any ideas?

Edit to add, she goes straight to my quarantine coop which is in my outdoor area but I've never put her in it, I've been allowing her to stay there so I could make sure she's eating and pooing as normal then I let her in with the others. If they stay in the run all day she roosts with the others but if I let them out to free range she goes back to this coop

Hello all!
I'm quite aware that this is very off topic, and that normally I ought to go to the BST sub-section, but I can't find anyone selling any poultry at all in Australia there. Are there by chance any breeders of pea fowl, ducks (any variety is of interest to me), guinea fowl, geese or turkeys in South-eastish NSW?
I'm willing to travel further if there are no breeders at semi-affordable prices nearby.
