Crow be Gone Update: Morning of Day 6:

So, I chased the Crows out of the trees again at dusk and they moved on.  And, while I actually got woken up this morning by squabbling chickens at 05:50am and not cawing Crows, once awake I could hear them in the neighbourhood and then while feeding the gals, the two persistent Crows were in the front and back tree again.

I had started the mp3 before going outside.

The days are definitely quieter and I am not so distracted when working but to be honest, while it appears to have worked on the majority of the Crows,  I am a little disappointed in that it does not seem to have worked entirely and as I type this and while the mp3 is playing, I can still hear cawing and can see a Crow in the front tree.

I am going to try some more repositioning and volume changes but I am not hopeful.  I believe these remaining few are probably the ones who were under the gazebo at the same time as the player and know the noise is not a threat.

I have hidden the BBQ cleaner that they keep trying to eat and as I type I am watching a Crow walk down my driveway and past my front door!

I am close to giving up.  Summer is going to suck, at the moment they are driving me insane with the windows closed, with the windows open in summer they are going to be deafening.

Right now, I hate them!!  Good job I do not have a gun, I reckon I could quite cheerfully shoot the evil black &^$#@'s

I know how that feels. They are the worst things to have around, If I had a gun I would do the same.

I have given up!!

I have packed the speakers and mp3 player away and I am just going to have to learn to live with them … even though they are doing my head in! I hate to admit that I have been beaten by Crows but these evil mongrels will not move on!

It could be that I have the positioning of the speakers or volume incorrect or it just could be that these Crows are determined to send me insane! Anyways, I have better things to do than constantly trying to shut them up.

I was chatting to my neighbour again this morning as he is raising our dividing fence because of his pool; anyways, he mentioned how he was watching one of the Crows quite happily walking around on the table under our gazebo and then strolling down our path like he owned the place!

It is illegal to do them harm or interfere with nests etc and also very much against my nature but I can only hope that they are annoying another of the neighbours as much as they are me and those neighbours may have ideas of their own

I ended up with 14 out of 18 eggs although the bator is still on as im holding onto hope for 2 more that moved when i float tested them. Overall very happy with this hatch. I readjusted my incubator and dry incubated this time. Out of the last 3 doz i incubated i got 7 chicks 4 of whick had to be culled due to bad legs and stargazing and hatching waaay too late. so i knew my method wasnt working :-/ this is the 1st hatch from my new crele roo for me so im very excited to see what colours they are when they feather out. Looks so far to be a mix of mostly wheatens and a couple of creles and cuckoos.

Please help. My rooster just attacked my australorp. Why would he do this? He didn't want to mate her she kept squatting for him he just kept going for her face, pulling on her comb. He's done so much damage there's blood everywhere I thought she was dead. I'm about to get the axe I swear to god I'm jack of him. I just used the last of my mesh on a pen for my bad drake!

Oh gosh sorry to hear that. I don't know never had it happen but if it did here he would be gone. Sorry. Has she been sick at all?

No she's been fine, brooding in the garden. I've got her in the laundry with the chicks for the night. She's got feathers missing everywhere and even though I cleaned her I can still see dry blood everywhere. We've just been sitting talking she's scared to go out. My poor Shiela

I would agree with satay, get rid of him. Who knows what gets into their heads. Keep Sheila warm and separate from the others until there are no signs of blood , would hate to see her cannibalised by the flock. Hydratation , warmth and quiet are the best thing for trauma.

She doesn't want a hot water bottle. She's preening very slowly and quietly. Hanging out with the 10wk old australorps. Its much nicer in the laundry than the big shed. I've done some reading, I'm going to sharpen up a knife and do it myself. I knew this day was coming. When we move out of Sydney we will have to do it, he just gave me a good excuse. I almost bloody throttled him when I caught him.

Kleonaptra I am so so sorry to hear about Sheila and the consequences for your rooster. I agree that it sounds like it needs to be done and I would not think twice about doing it if I was in your shoes and he hurt one of my gals. Having said that, I could not do it myself and would me making a trip to the Vet.

Wishing you all the best and hope it is not too hard on you
