Crow be Gone Update: Morning of Day 6:

So, I chased the Crows out of the trees again at dusk and they moved on.  And, while I actually got woken up this morning by squabbling chickens at 05:50am and not cawing Crows, once awake I could hear them in the neighbourhood and then while feeding the gals, the two persistent Crows were in the front and back tree again.

I had started the mp3 before going outside.

The days are definitely quieter and I am not so distracted when working but to be honest, while it appears to have worked on the majority of the Crows,  I am a little disappointed in that it does not seem to have worked entirely and as I type this and while the mp3 is playing, I can still hear cawing and can see a Crow in the front tree.

I am going to try some more repositioning and volume changes but I am not hopeful.  I believe these remaining few are probably the ones who were under the gazebo at the same time as the player and know the noise is not a threat.

I have hidden the BBQ cleaner that they keep trying to eat and as I type I am watching a Crow walk down my driveway and past my front door!

I am close to giving up.  Summer is going to suck, at the moment they are driving me insane with the windows closed, with the windows open in summer they are going to be deafening.

Right now, I hate them!!  Good job I do not have a gun, I reckon I could quite cheerfully shoot the evil black &^$#@'s

The last pair must be deaf.

Please help. My rooster just attacked my australorp. Why would he do this? He didn't want to mate her she kept squatting for him he just kept going for her face, pulling on her comb. He's done so much damage there's blood everywhere I thought she was dead. I'm about to get the axe I swear to god I'm jack of him. I just used the last of my mesh on a pen for my bad drake!

Is the rooster an astralorp ? For some reason any astralorps we have had have always been picked to death by any other breeds. It seems they all hate astralorps for some reason.

Congrats on the good hatch rate Deej211 :clap

Kleonaptra I am so so sorry to hear about Sheila and the consequences for your rooster.  I agree that it sounds like it needs to be done and I would not think twice about doing it if I was in your shoes and he hurt one of my gals.  Having said that, I could not do it myself and would me making a trip to the Vet.

Wishing you all the best and hope it is not too hard on you :(

Thankyou very much...everyone. It was not as hard as I thought. I was doing some reading, (on here mostly) and one lady was saying how for her old friends she digs a hole, sits quietly with them, pats them, then swiftly breaks their neck. She said you owe it to them to do it the best way for them, not for us. So I knew I had to learn. What if one of my beauties got mauled by a hawk? I would want to have the courage and knowledge to do it right and quickly.
So I let him out this morning, thinking no way, cant ever do it...then he went for 2 of the Isa browns and a duck. Chased him down, took him yo the other shed and used the neck breaking with a tool handle technique. Not so hard really. I feel bad over the waste, he had just been wormed, 7 day with holding period, so we couldn't eat him. Still, one step at a time, I think. If I do get another roo, it will be an australorp.

I'm sorry to hear that. Glad it wasn't you or the kids though. Think he has pretty much shown he isn't a gene pool you want to carry on.

Hope your girl recovers quickly.

Hmmmm penny my silkie has been clucking away to herself and everybody is pecking at her which is normally what they do when she goes broody and starts ignoring she's bottom of the pecking order.

No sign of being broody yet but what do you think? On the way? Order those eggs? Arghhhhhhhh I can't decide lol

Thanks, she's doing ok. Wanted to brood today I said no way honey. Not those eggs. My scovy was also brooding some of his eggs (boss chook, The Trude, insisted) and I took those too.
