Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sad as it is Slagasse --- it is great to know that Mr. Rooster has gone to a good and caring home, where he will be properly cared for & perhaps placed with someone who wants a good stud rooster.

I have an Araucana who 'crows'. So far, no-one has complained .... she only lets forth with the crow several times a day, and never ever in the early mornings.

She likes to 'sleep in' - by preference.

Cheers --- AB.

Thanks Anniebee

We collared Speckles out ISA Brown (sex link) rooster tonight. He's not as pleased but he seems to be doing well day 1 into day 2 with out the dominate rooster, still very gentle with the hens not overly rough with the hens. If the collar works well be able to keep him which were really hoping. We have some very sleepy hens. I am up very early and they dont come coming down to make noise or even eat till almost 9 or 10 am.

Wow. Mine are starting to yell by about 7:30.

I started early with the camera; I planned to take some pics tomorrow but the Blonde girls gave me reason to take a few fun shots this afternoon which I hope you do not mind me sharing ...... PS. If you are a member of some Grasshopper Protection Society or Save the Grasshopper Fund etc .. do not read on! ;) "Ah .. Grasshopper!" So KiKi (above) found herself a rather large grasshopper .. sadly Blondie also had grasshopper cravings and KiKi lost her find .... Blonde fuzzy butts! Shake, shake, shake ... shake, shake, shake ... Crystal and KiKi are just shy of 6 months old so I thought it was time for some posing shots .... can you see Crystal's blue feathers? If you remember they both have 5 toes, so thinking Silkie X but no idea with what! Crystal: KiKi:
:love

I have had 3 little Belgians hatch on the weekend from the eggs from the friend the other day. 6 had started she said but I didn't realize how far along they were. I'll get some pics after.

Good morning friends

Wow .. what a wonderful weekend; spent lots of time in the garden with the girls. Cilla appears to be broken from this bout of broodiness; she is not making everyone’s life a misery BUT I do not think she is at the point where she can be trusted to resist an egg. While she was quite happy in the garden on the weekend, a deserted egg in a comfy nest box may be too much temptation; we shall see how she goes

Even though the back neighbour has stopped feeding them, a couple of Crows do visit every afternoon and demand to be fed …. Apparently Crazy Lady bashing dust brush on dustpan (only deterrent on hand at the time) is as effective as Crazy Lady with water pistol and long pole

Just need to break them of that afternoon habit.

Huh? Chickens that sleep in? Breakfast at 9 or 10am? 07:30am? 05:50am this morning at Bambrook Bantams “Hello, the sun is up, we are up .. where is breakfast?”

RodneyRooster I can read your happiness regarding your new home in your posts .. I am happy for you, the family and the flock that things are going so well and everyone is loving the new home.

Hey Anniebee yep, Silkies are supposed to have 5 toes .. ironically I had a pet quality Silkie who was obviously a Silkie but she only had 4 toes while I have 2 x Silkie mixes who, to me, do not look anything like Silkies and they have 5 toes

On the grasshopper; the morning after devouring him, legs and all, Blondie was a little off colour and maybe a bit uncomfortable; she came good and is right as rain now but I wonder if the grasshopper may not have agreed with her digestion.

Love the flock photo sjturner79; especially the piggy back on mumma. The littlies are adorable!

I am sorry that Mr Rooster had to find a new home Slagasse but probably for the best. We are not allowed to have roosters here either and while I really do not have a use for one, I have hatched out a couple I would have loved to have kept. My fear is that if there ever was a complaint I would be drawing attention to my flock from the authorities and very much prefer to keep a low profile.

Tee hee devinandfeather yep, sounds like you are going to be very busy

Congrats on the bubs satay, looking forward to the pictures.

Two hatches this weekend. I didn't approve neither (downside to free ranging, they hide their eggs) but chicks are so cute so I can't really get angry about the new additions to the chook family lol. Only problem is finding somewhere to put them because I'm running out of cages and the goshawk's two babies seem to have taken up residency here by the looks of it.

Note to self.. I must try harder to find hidden nests before anymore hens go broody or I'll be completely over run by chickens lol

Congratz on your new additions.:weee I am lucky out of all of mine that free-range I only have a very determined Australorp that likes to hide eggs and sit. This season she has taken to laying just outside the front door of the house so I can grab them as soon as she lays.
