Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi All, love all the chick photos that people are posting. Congrats on your hatches!
I have a quick question. The new perch I have constructed for the coop is made out of treated pine. Upon reading some posts on BYC regards treated pine I am now worried that it won't be good for the girls to perch on. :cd Am in a bit of a flap about it. When my husband asked me why I used treated pine, my answer was I was just in auto mode cause that's the wood I use for outside projects. I really didn't think about it :barnie
It took me two days and a few choice words  to make, so am reluctant to chuck it and do it again. I painted it yesterday with a mix of surface spray, small amounts of eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil. Left it a few hours then painted it with linseed oil. It all has soaked right in and wood still looks dry.
So should I go ahead and use it or should I paint it over with some paint?
Any thoughts or advice are most welcome.

I wouldn't paint it. I think even though its treated, the linseed oil and stuff you have used should cancel that out. I have just remodelled my coop - wish I could share pics from my phone, maybe the kids and animals will let me get on the computer later! - to put in new perches. Years ago I set up a nesting area for ducks, and the australorp is hell bent on perching precariously on its edge. I have since put in a 'drake run' on the other side, which my broody scovy has claimed. So, I moved the nesting area over and made a new nesting area, and set up new perches where the isa's and australorp like to perch. I used some big gum tree branches. They are happy....But the Trude and 3 baby lorps have moved over to perch on the lip of the nesting areas!

From my Christmas hatch of Belgians I have a frizzle. So cute. While it is not standard for a belgie to be frizzled it is still adorable. I have quails hatching this morning 5 out so far and a few marans and Belgians from my own girls then this long on going hatch will be over. Then it will be time for a clean and restock.

That is just a beautiful chicken.

Do you have any photos of your blue wheatons? I was telling a friend about them and couldn't find your posts with photos in them.

Cheers

Satay, Teila and Kleonaptra, thank you for your replies and advice. It is much appreciated:):)
After reading lots online about the dangers of treated pine (i.e.arsenic leaching), I have given into paranoia and swapped out 3 of the top rungs with untreated pine. Will calk gaps and oil the wood tomorrow. Have also bought some metal cutting blades to go on the grinder for cutting the metal sheets to put around the base of their yard. Thanks again! Always gladly get feed Back from other chook keepers :D

Fancy i hope ur on the up!

Thanks for all the advice guys, sounds like u all move chooks and eggs to completely new nest.. ive actually moved the whole nesting box into the brood pen so she doesnt actually need to accept a new roost just a seperate pen without her flock lol. So ive just done that now, hope shes happy tomorrw, luckily i have the day off so can supervise :) YAY! Trying not to get too excited unless she decides she doesnt want to go full term but i dont think i had a chance ever since i first seen her in the box lol :-D
