Well i just candled my second lot with much more luck! 16 eggs plus my fake one lol. One was infertile (accidentally gave it back to her! Will it explode?) One possible quitter but wasnt obvious so gave it back to her for now. Any usual time period that theyll explode if left there? Will have to check again sometime soonish, thinking in another week if thats not too long.

Excited to try my other lot again now i have a torch that works! But will give her a couple days so as not to distress her.

Yay! How exciting :-D the eggs in the second lot are probably 2 days different in time which is a tad worrying (since i didnt move her straight away and she kept stealing more!)

May I suggest RodneyRooster .... that you remove both suspect eggs, and replace them with dummy eggs, or even a couple of golf balls ( although that might not be safe, as they are hard, and might crack against the good eggs ) ....

This way, you can be absolutely sure of no explosions, or other nasties, as long as she 'thinks' she has the required number beneath her ( how they count --- I haven't a clue ) .... ping pong ball replacements might also be a thought ???

Thanks AB. I cant see me needing to find her replacements. Just dont wanna disturb her getting them all out to find the 2 again. Nor do i want to take it out if it isnt a quitter! The ones ive seen have a much larger lime pretty much all the way around but this way just a small one. Seemed too thick to be a vein or anything tho..

We have had a spate of hot weather the last few days with more to come and our 9 week old chicks were panting and distressed in the brooder (no light on for about two weeks). The brooder is on the verandah which gets hot and I draw the line at moving them into the house. I love my chooks but love them outside of the house, no matter how much they beg :)I rushed to get the coop ready and popped them into this arvo with a small run.

Dusk came and they went silly, crowding into a corner of the run peeping in distress, basically letting every fox in the area know they were sitting ducks/chooks :bow. I had to corall them and physically put them in the coop.

They now officially think I'm the bogey man and are crowded into the one corner of the coop reserved for their feed and water which is plain concrete .

I have put a dim light in there so they can see the rest of the coop with lovely saw dust but no, still crowded in a puppy pile in corner near the door so can't even get in to move them. Hope they are ok.

Might have to keep them in the coop for a couple of days till they get used to it.
Hope they will like me again one day :hit

I see lots of bribery with food happening in the future :p

We have one little black (I think ) australorp :). No pip yet from the other one but I saw the egg move earlier so fingers crossed there will be another one in the morning.

So is that the F1 or F2 you are up to?  Im guessing its the F2 about to lay?

Would be cool collectiong eggs when you get up to the rainbow generation!

The way my friend dave explained it to me . He has marans hens with a rooster from a blue laying araucana,. The offspring from these are F1. Then if you add a blue/brown can't remember which he said to these hens you will get true olive eggers F2.

They should be fine as long as there was no bad smell coming from the eggs just leave them.

Yay as I was logging in this morning I was thinking about you and wondering whether your eggs hatched. Great news. Hope the other one hatches for you too. :weee

Don't know about exploding (who was it got the face full of that last year? They will know lol) but mine started to stink around day 14. Don't know how long it takes from stink to pop though.
