Cool .. thank you  Once the Snow Peas have finished, it makes much more sense to let the girls eat the plant, rather than throw it in the compost.

What are your thoughts on tomato plants?  I have read that chickens should not eat them but I know mine have in the past.

I currently have to make sure that I have no chickens following me when I duck down the side of the house to check the vegies   

Tomato plants are said to be toxic, mine don't touch them.

@Teila don't know about chickens but apparently bower birds love to pick the leaves off tomato seedlings. Of course not to eat, no just to drop so you can see if the next one tastes better (nope they all tasted yucky)

Hhhhm, mine have eaten them when they have found them growing out of the compost bin; but it probably is not wise to make a point of feeding them to them .. compost bin it is

Please, please, please do not let me see any Bower birds, I am having enough trouble with destructive, egg stealing Crows; vegie stripping Bower birds are likely to send me over the edge

Sorry to hear that. One good thing about living in the driest place on earth is I haven't had to deal with cocci. I'll keep everything crossed that chickens recover. :

A very dry Spring here and no cases of cocci at all this year. xxxx M

As i recall Tiela tomatoes are in the nightshade family. I don't give the foliage to mine.

And cocci strikes again. Had heaps of rain lately. Just got the new off ground chick pens sorted yesterday but was too late for an ara and a polish chick.and possibly an ara pullet and a fw maran cockerel. Im treating both with slim hopes for success. :-( i hate the wet...

Very much enjoying all the lovely chick photos

Can anyone tell me if this chicken is possibly a rooster? I bought them all sexed as girls they are now 10 weeks old.

The kids named her - Zachery Quack.

Until recently Z.Quack was an unassuming chick who stayed out of the limelight, mostly concentrating on eating lots of crumble. Just recently she/he ? has become a bit more of a player in the flock dynamics.

All the others don't have sticky up tails like Zachs.

Looks like a leghorn, the pullets do have that tail. Red wattles will be an indication of it being a cockerel.
