Things that make you go hmmm. I had Carl inside for about 3 - 3 1/2 hours and she didn't poop once. Does that seem a bit odd? I have been wondering lately if she is 100%

Unless she is afraid of pooping inside or trained I would say it is a very bad sign. I would keep her in a confined area and make sure she's drinking. Check crop. If full, no food for 12 hours to make sure it empties. If empty, do whatever you can to make her eat.
Check what output she has and see what happens overnight.

Warm bath may also help.

Im starting to think she isnt really eating properly again. When you say electrolites, do you mean the same as for humans, ie the ones I used to give the kids when they were sick or do they sell them for birds too?

She was drinking, She was actually at the water dish when I went to check on them and noticed she didnt seem right and she was at it again when i put her back so she is getting some liquids.

Thankfully tomorrow and the rest of the week is only supposed to be low 20's

Any electrolytes will do, Gatorade is ok. The first sign of crop impaction is ' excessive ' drinking. The bird is literally trying to ' wash it through. '
When was the last time you wormed her and did you follow it up ?

OMG it's some kid of day. My husband had gall bladder surgery yesterday and I drove about 300km today back and forth running errands and getting him from the hospital. My chickens have decided that they don't like my new nesting boxes, so I had to set up new new ones today. I was using crates as a temporary measure but they could see each other through the sides and thus pecked and yelled at each other. I picked up some 65L plastic bins and cut a door into them, setting them up where the crates were. They began immediately entering them and making them comfy - so I feel like they approve and it gives them so much more privacy.

Queenie's chicks are now a month old and she's beginning to distance herself from them a little. She's gotten them up on the roost now, which is fantastic, but I now realize that I need more roosts.

It just never ends.

Oooh, though in pleasant news, I got my new 48 egg incubator today and I'm extremely keen to give it a try. The instructions actually appear to have been written by a native English speaker (I bought it from China) but it's still VERY complicated and will take some getting used to. It's going to be -so nice- having automatic egg turners. I'm almost more excited about that than Christmas. <3 <3

Queenie's chicks are now a month old and she's beginning to distance herself from them a little.  She's gotten them up on the roost now, which is fantastic, but I now realize that I need more roosts.  

It just never ends.

Hey RodneyRooster thanks for that, I was just curious what your plans were for them and that is probably what I would be doing also.

Trying to find homes for the roosters is definitely one of the reasons I am reluctant to have another hatch for a while.

On that subject … it is official .. I am broody free e   Yeah, yeah, I know, enjoy it while it lasts

One reason I hatch purebreds is they are far easier to find good homes for. And I try that first and have met some good chook people that way.

Think it's going to be a long summer. Only 36 at the moment but I've had to bring Carl in because she she wasn't looking real good. They are all mouth breathing but her the most and she seemed to have starring eyes too if that makes sense and a bit wobbly and I was misting and instead of avoiding it like normal she was actually following it round. So I've brought her into the laundry where it's much cooler and she is looking a lot better.

If this is her in 36 heat though gawd help us when summer hits. I don't think she's ever quite got back to 100% normal after being sick that time.

Poor darling, hope shes not sick, sounds like it from more recent posts tho :-( yeah the heat is ridiculous. First day of summer and we had a massive downpour and windy as all day! Lol. 39 predicted for sat-mon tho. Will def have to make some freezing room for it

We had lovely drenching rIn last night, my garden is looking very pleased with itself today.
Just finished pushing the goats down the back , as they keep breaking in to the hay paddock. Most people are saying that they are only getting half the yeild off their hay paddocks this season. This weekend we are making a ' foaling ' yard in anticipation of our baby.

Yay! Another foal how exciting!

Last time all my hens went broody, the rooster did too, he stayed in each nest box for a few hours then moved to the next one.

My rooster seems to want chicks all the time. If there are no young ones around he'll spend a lot of time trying to convince the hens to go back to stay with the eggs, even taking food to the nests.

Yep thats what i use for nesting boxes and theyve always done well with them

Oh how exciting about the incubator!! Id be more excited about that too lol, by far!

Some great stories over the weekend, thanks everyone one. RodneyRooster 8.15 you're kidding?

Hey, AB haven't chatted for too long. The bird is definitely a crow the white is near the shoulders and not as much as in your photo. It lives with crows, caws like a crow, steals eggs like a crow.....I'll take a photo and post it. We do have currawongs here. I haven't seen them around my home but I have seen many in the CBD. They live in the trees planted on the side of the roads. It always amazes me how adaptable they are when I hear there call in a concrete jungle.

Update on the two rescued eggs.

My lavender aracauna that was cheeping inside the egg didn't make it. She never pipped and had been silent and motionless for a long time. I couldn't help myself - I opened it up and it was too dry. Shame - I had had that do I, do I not intervene feeling. The easter eager though was out Sunday morning and still wet. I took her out to the hen but she pulled it out and pecked it. Poor Cageny has been traumatised. I'll try again later. I hope she takes it. I couldn't try last night because of storms.

Now I'm wondering what to do with "her" today to ensure the cat doesn't eat her. I'm not set up with brooders. "She" is under a lamp but if I cover "her" box to protect "her" the heat won't get in. I guess "she'll" have to sleep in my locked bed room. "She" has won me over already .
