Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Good morning folks :frow

LuckysMum Wow eggs! Now there is something you do not see around here often ;)

Gees Fancy mother nature is definitely in a mood over Tassie; I hope all are safe and remain so.

potato chip and Fancy thank you for the fox poop information.  As I could not smell it but hubby reckoned the smell was not strong, I am going with dog poop.

Anniebee Cilla is a Pekin [or Bantam Cochin, or Pekin Cochin, depending on from where you hail ;) ]

Council rang me today regarding the fox program. I asked if they had foxes on your side of Sandgate road and they confirmed they do get sightings.

When I got home the orpington pullet was dead. I hate finding them dead, I feel like they suffered in the end. May not be true but I wasn't there to know or to help her.

So sorry to hear you've lost your orpington pullet.

I was really hoping you were getting on top of it.

I like to use hay I've sundried from long grass. Because of humidity and rain I have run out and had to buy sugar cane mulch.
We can't get sugar cane mulch in perth because they say its contains stuff they don't want here. (not sure what that's just what Bunnings say)
They use to quarantine it but now they won't let in WA at all. I only use hemp I was told hay is not good for nesting boxes either.

So sorry to hear you've lost your orpington pullet.:hugs I was really hoping you were getting on top of it.

I think I am getting on top of it. The pullet seemed to be not recovering as well as the others. She was young and the young ones seem to be more susceptible than the others. Maybe I didn't get her the antibiotics soon enough.

She looks just like my pure araucanas. I have white and lavender. It is very hard to get "blue egg laying" aras in Australia, you can get them but they mostly lay a minty green.
satay ....

That's interesting. Madam Mindy often lays really blue eggs, but also the greenish and olive colour - so she is a mixture ? The trick is the inside of the shell - I have noticed that no matter what colour the outside is, all inside the shells are blue - almost a bright sky blue. Weird ?

And I have always thought ( but not known - can never know ) ... that Mindy is 99% pure Araucana in her looks.

The support we get is what gets us through. I was semiconscious and drugged for a long time, I think it was harder on those around me - I wasn't all that aware. I did give up smoking, again because I was semiconscious through withdrawal. I may end up living longer as a result. Scars, yes there are a lot.

Can I just say, if you are in the regions and you get sick - get to a major centre for treatment. The regions do not get the resources or training needed to keep people alive. Thank god for the Flying Drs who literally saved my life getting me to the city.

That sounds as though it was a truly shocking time for you - and I am so glad you are past all that now. And it IS support of family and friends that helps so very much.

I am not sure what the 'regions' are ... not something I have heard referred to down south here. But we are 4 minutes drive from an excellent hospital, so feel very comforted by that. I am guessing you refer to far away country living, and being far from cities - with reference to 'regions'. We are classified country where we live in the hills, but the hospital is in another area run by a city council - not our shire.

The Flying Doctors is a superb service, and should be supported in every way possible. And yes, thank God they were able to do what they did for you.

Cheers ......

Not at all wierd. The blue colour in chook eggs is in the shell itself, the brown colours are coating, so if the outside of the egg is any shade of blue or green the inside should be sky blue. In America and UK the Aracuana programs did not breed to brown layers when creating thier birds. I am disappointed that Australia chose to, as it means that a pure Aracuana here does not lay pure blue eggs, but rather mostly shades of green.

Yes we had the same with dog breeders. I think sometimes they get too precious and the animal suffers.
I will ask the lady if she has a photo of her araucanas but I think she said they had tuft of the side of their face and minty green eggs.

MyHaven and Fancy I hope you both have good health now. It is important to know your rights and to have someone to speak for you when you are too sick to care or know what is going on.

I wish I had known more about my sisters treatment she was too sick to say anything and her partner didn't really do anything. She was already too sick by the time I realized what was happening. She had cancer and would have passed away anyway, but maybe not at Easter and 2 days after her youngest turned 7.
My aunt picked my cousin up from hospital, my aunt wasn't happy he had severe burns to his hands arms and thighs. She took him to her family doctor, he sent the straight to Royal Perth Hospital, they put him in the burns unit he suffered kidney failure and had grafts and was seriously ill for a number of weeks. If he had got home on his own, I shudder to think what could have happened. I think everyone needs to question everything they don't understand and get another opinion if necessary.
Sorry ranting.

I do get worked up about things.

LuckysMum .... don't get me started on dog breeders and dog showing people Many are really nice, friendly and helpful, but sooo many are not. They are indeed 'precious' which is a nice way of saying rude, overbearing, dominant, and arrogant. ........ Not to mention dictatorial. UGH. Have met both sides, but bowed out of the arena, when I discovered ( simply by patting a dog ) that it had a huge saddle of hot-spot crust with new spots emerging. Poor dog. I quietly mentioned it to the owner who I knew.

Wish I hadn't - she ticked me off big time - said her dog was 'perfectly okay' and couldn't feel anything. I beg to differ - from experience. And THAT dog was continually badgering at her back, which she couldn't reach. Bah humbug. Had some good experiences in the show ring, ( no ribbons tho !! ) but too much nasty snotty stuff for my liking. I just retired from it all, and enjoyed the company of my beautiful dog companion and devoted friend - Lachlan - long gone now.

As for your dreadful experiences with your sister ... so sad a story, I am very sorry for your loss. And your cousin ... suffice to say you are absolutely correct. If anything at all doesn't feel right, or anyone is in any doubt whatsoever, a 2nd or even 3rd opinion is necessary, and is all persons' right to have.

We should always question, question, question - everything. My mother would never question a doctor over anything, because to her, that would be like questioning God.

Not so, any more. ( btw - I have good doctors, but would never hesitate if doubts arose ).

Cheers ........
