Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Ta Ash and Satay. That seems to be the size of eggs from my breeds too 400-600g. Does make me curious what is it laying the 800g eggs at the supermarket?

Fancy, your chookies are very spoilt by the look of it!

That sounds like a very tasty meal. I don't have a salmon farm anywhere handy but I'm sure I could replace it with something else. I'll try something later today. I have given them oats but hadn't thought of cooked rice. I generally give by menagerie coarse grain mix, with an extra handful of sunflower seeds - we're growing sunflowers for them too - and plenty of fruit and left-over vegies. We have a lot of paw paw trees growing and producing huge fruit. I will eat it, but it's not my favourite fruit (that's mango) so I slice and dice and the chooks and ducks love it. We also have a lot of bananas - sometimes we will have 3 or 4 bunches ripening all at the same time and can't get through them all ourselves so I freeze some, after peeling, for summer; and slice and dice a hand or two each day for the birds. Another special treat for them.

You can substitute the salmon with woollies mackerel in oil. :)
Spiral pasta is also quicker to cook, I just have a lot of rice atm.
The turmeric is a good antioxidant and anti inflammatory and as chooks have no heat sensors in their beak you can feed them just about any spicy food.

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely give this a try this afternoon.

No worries, remember that this is a treat, mine get this or similar once a week. Natural grains and a well balanced pellet should be the staple diet.

Absolutely. They cost me a small fortune with the grain and pellets which is their main daily diet, and everything else is simply a lovely treat for them. Even the sunflower seeds are given sparingly. They certainly enjoy them, though!

Fancy ... I know turmeric is excellent for us humans, but would never have thought chookies could or should eat it.

Stupid non-thinking on my part. Turmeric will now get added to their 'goodies' mix, the base of which is rice - or left over pasta ( if there is ever any of it remaining in this house !! )..

To the main mixing bowl of goodies, how much turmeric can I add while mixing it all up. It usually results in about a cat bowl size of the goodies for each girl. I give my two big girls a bowl each, or a double cat bowl with food either side - because they tend to get into punch-ups over a single bowl of it.

Found Mandy sitting on it the other day - not sure if it was a "this is all mine, so buzz off" to Molly, or whether she just decided it might be a nice place to plonk herself down for a while. She does a fair amount of sitting these days - but then she is such a very large chicken.

Brought her inside to clip her wings ( after completing her moult ) ... and she weighed a ton to carry - I swear, as heavy as Sonya Labrador was at 9 weeks of age. Sonya is now almost 15 weeks old, and I can no longer carry her.

Cheers .....

Tumeric is great. I gave it to Zeus when he had cancer. It was supposed to help with the swelling in the effected limb and it seemed to work well.

My chickens are loving chillis at the moment i have 7 varieties that are still fruiting way to much for what we need so them get them as treats each day.

The big supermarket eggs come from production reds, a strain of Isa Brown, but they need a fully controlled diet with 20 hours light per day to do it.
