Why hello chicken peeps. Been a while since I've been on here. Much has happened. I have been further developing my cuckoobaraucanas and i have some really nice chicks growing out right now. Am hatching some birchens out of some really nice black firls ive recently aquired very soon. Ive also just got my greesy chicken math hands on some really nice dark laying marans. I finally have some girls to pair up with my pretty rooster. The fold laced wyandottes are doing well and have just started to lay. One of them is laying a gorgeous pink egg with white speckles. But i have sold all bar 4 of my adult araucanas to make room for growing out babies so im down to 4 aras 3 wyandottes and 4 marans for breeders this season. A much more managable number i think. How is everyone elses birdies going?

I would love to see some photos of the cuckoo araucanas that sounds amazing!

Good to see an Australian thread! This is my white growing in his third year train. I'm in the Yarra Valley, Vic.

What a magnificent peacock .... The coloureds are so beautiful, but I think the whites should be termed 'glorious'.

Yarra Valley has had some very low temps this past week or more. Is your peacock housed in a warm area ? or is he free to roam. ? And are his wings clipped ? ... they do tend to take off to parts unknown at times. Recall my helpful ?? efforts at clipping the wings of a male peacock. He was perfectly behaved. Owner held, while I clipped. No more searching the township for an errant peacock - calling to all and sundry from his newly found hidey hole. He was a coloured bird.

What a lovely assortment of colours you have there. And obviously a grand assortment of chickens - even though you have recently sold some of your adult aras.

Installed my hensafe automatic door on Sunday. Worked great till this morning when it didn't open and won't open even using the manual instead of automatic settings.

Just lucky it died closed not open! Will be interesting what customer service says. So much for peace of mind when we go away overnight in a few weeks.

Not good appps .... won't hurt your bubs / chookies to experience being locked up for 24>36 hours while you are away overnight. As long as they have heaps of food and water - all should be well.

Meantime, get in touch with the retailers of this product ( which obviously you are going to do ) ... and be very firm about it.

Great photographs Fancy ....... 

I don't like the idea that you have to choose one of the cockerels only ( that is my understanding of your post ).   Could the other cockerel not be put in with some other hens, to see what ( if anything ?? ) happens.   I don't think I could do it myself, especially as they most likely are both magnificent looking birds.    ( don't know which is which from the photos' ).

But I do see the beautiful white ( light sussex ? )  rooster there.   He is very handsome.

Maybe LG needs to mature a little more - d'ya think ?   ... Not for me to interfere - I just hate the idea of having to choose between male chookies.

They are all coronation Sussex. The rooster is LG son of KG ( King George) , unfortunately when KG was alive LG was never allowed near the hens and he is still not mating them even though his dad is gone. The young cockerels , there are 3 will grow out a bit before I choose one and the others will be rehomed, I have no trouble getting them homes.

My kids are loving school holidays, and terroris.... I mean "helping" me with the chickens. There is a daily fight over who's turn it is to collect the one egg a day we have been getting from the bantam araucana



She has even kept laying they day we moved the chickens in the new coop. And the day after. Not much phases her lol.

Araucanas seem to be super duper good at whatever it is they do. They work hard in their little lives.

More the problem is sorting out who collects the egg. ???

.... Mark a calendar with big letters of the children's names. That might sort it ??? ----- Good luck.

An ooops ... am not good at sussing what breed a bird is. Occasionally I get one correct.

I remember your post about poor King George, who ( from memory ) lived a nice longish age. Your post is way back in the many pages on here.

Nice to think the cockerels will be re-homed well. Would be nice to give LG a bit of leeway - see if he 'gets the idea' as it were, in time. If not - then he's obviously for rehoming, preferably as a pet, perhaps..... or a rooster that might at least protect a flock of hens ? .... Does he not do that either ?

Syba has his annual wellness check + vaccination + worming today. Both of my cats so hate going to the Vet. Their Vet is such a nice lady and is so very gentle and kind to them, talks to them the whole time, tells them how beautiful and handsome they are but neither of them are buying it

Appps that sucks about the door! I do hope you are able to get some satisfaction from the supplier and also that you can be confident it [or its replacement] will work while you are away.

LG isn't going anywhere, he is the chick that I saved in the egg cup , he's a special boy. That's the beauty of selecting one of the cockerels to help protect the flock, there is a much better chance of them integrating than if I was to simply get another grown roo and throw it in with them.

Thanks Anniebee. It has been down to -3 some mornings in the Valley. The blues cope fine with the weather, he free ranges. He pretty much stays in the backyard and is fully flighted! I am penning him with a pied hen later in the year to breed some pieds and whites. I am in the process of building two large pens. One for the chickens and one for the peafowl. I am getting two brothers to free range, a blue and a pied. Your blue eggs look fantastic!
