Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Not antibiotics but my avitrol plus bird wormer tablets have finally turned up (took them 2 weeks to post them!) and it says right at the top in bold print
"Not to be used in food producing species"

Not sure what to think, they are selling them in a poultry store but it says food producing not just animals for human consumption so would take that to mean eggs too.

Sorry to hear about your little one Satay. It's so easy to get distracted too.

Hi Annie , my VRE doesn't really have any impact on me when I am in good health. However when I was being tube fed and undergoing chemo my immune system was quite understandably at its lowest and that is when your treatment options aren't good after the surgeon places the tube in the wrong place and you develop double pneumonia. The prof had his work cut out for him finding the correct cocktail of drugs to get me through, it's just not as straight forward as regular patient care. VRE patients are isolated from anyone that has a compromised immune system and that can have its advantages Private Room! Hehe.
Try arnica for the arthritis.

Oh my goodness Fancy ...... you have in the past been through worrying and very difficult wars with health.

Double pneumonia ( mal-practice by surgeon ?) during or after chemo ? My mind boggled.

Thank heaven for the Professor and his ability to provide the right combination of treatments. Not to mention your own strength, will and purpose which aided you probably more than you might realise.

To run a beautiful farm, to do the work you do daily, to call upon your strengths in times of need, and to be so positive and helpful, is a deserved testament to you.

.............

I had heard of Arnica ... I will try and find some rub-on cream, as that is the only way ( from research ) that I could safely use it. I cannot afford homeopathic treatments, and apparently that is the only way it can be taken orally. I haven't finished reading yet though !!

Many thanks .......

Interesting reading all about the over use of Panadol. Not something i had thought about before as I am a don't take pills that often kinda girl but i guess like anything it can be miss used.

I learnt a not so nice lesson yesterday morning. I was cleaning out the little millies in the brooder so i thought i would pop them out on the grass for a little bit while i cleaned the brooder. As i was about a third of the way through cleaning it a neighbour rang. She is having major problems with her dad as he is unwell so I was on the phone for just over an hour . As i hung up i thought omg the babies.it was blowing a gale with westerly winds down the hill yesterday and cold. I raced out and they didn't look good. Unfortunately 1 lost one not long after getting them back under the heat lamp.

Lesson learnt the hard way. Don't put the babies out for just a few minutes to have grass on a cold day and get distracted. The other 2 are looking much better this morning thankfully.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your little chicken bub. We all make errors of judgement, so don't be hard on yourself. Phone calls from distressed persons are not easy to deal with, and timing seems to go out the window, when on a call such as you had. Not your neighbours fault either.

As you said - a lesson learned the hard way. Glad the other two little 'uns are doing well today.

Take care -

Thanks Annie, I'm no angel though. Hehe. I bought a pump pack of arnica on ' groceries online '
Our daughter uses it for lower back pain, she says it's great. I have bought pilules at Goulds chemist in Hobart.I take vit E and Rosehip capsules whenever I'm feeling a little creeky.
The Indian herbalist swear by turmeric as an antiflamatory .

So sorry to hear about your little one. Its so easy to get distracted. I asked my kids to watch when I put them out and then I found they'd been distracted.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the chick. A tip for future: see if you can set up a sheltered spot with a heat lamp for when you bubbies are out of the brooder. That's what I do for mine as there has been a few times I've been distracted and forgot they were out for several hours.

Hi Fizzybelle - I know what you are going through. My girls are always trying to sit on top of other girls that are laying. They drive me crazy. They have so many nesting boxes, yet they all seem to like the same one and it's nothing to see three crammed in, on top of each other. When one is broody it is even worse as she will grab every other egg that's laid and whip them underneath her. We now have to mark the broody's eggs and each day lift her off and remove the unmarked ones.
