Glad to hear Esme is laying properly now. I have been with out eggs for 2 weeks now, probably because their all upset about the constant changes. I have just the main layers left to bring out to the new coop, then I can start de-construction of the old one, hopefully yielding enough material to fox proof thier run.

Thank you and I hope your chickens get settled soon. I'm still in the process of coop construction too, and I forsee some whinging and stubborn behaviour in my future too. Once they're used to it and get a routine going, all should be well. I got an earful from my araucana Mabel today when it was time to put them to bed. I had to duck back in the laundry quickly for a minute, and she complained very loudly that I dared to go against the established bedtime protocol by leaving. I wonder if anyone could help me out. My mother in law just got some more chickens, going by what she discribes it sounds like a sussex, she wants to know if their female or roos, they are are going through their first proper molt since feathering out. I have told her she may have to wait til she can see the roo signs of crowing or the roo feathers. I am not familiar with the breed so whats the earliest you can tell uf they are sussex? And how? She also has 2 more but have no clue what breed they are or if they are mixed.

Sussex are one of the easier breeds to sex. At 4-6 weeks the wattles will be larger and much redder than on the cockerels.

Some more pics of the new coop and run. Brought all the Broodies and bubs out now , along with McLeod.
McLeod seems to have a problem with purple boy, but hopefully he'll work out that he's too young and small to be a threat without damaging him too much.

In after some advice please, I bought these worming tablets after reading advice in here.
However reading the label, it says withhold food for 24 hours before and 3 hours after. How do I do that without locking them up all day?

With free range peafowl I simply withold their supplemental feed for 24 hours, then the 3 hours after worming. They still get the bugs and stuff from about the place. They've always been fine and the wormer has worked well for me.

This is where they are moving into. The coop section is an old lambing hut. I won't be getting out to the old one for a few days. There are pics of it on my thread. There is a link to it on my signature block if your not in mobile device mode. I will see if there is enough light to get an inside shot before I head out in the morning.

Some fun for your girls in their new digs. Had a look through many of your photographs, and there is such an array of different chickens, egg colours etc. And a couple of cats ( so far that I've seen ). Will go back and finish looking. Well done with the new run etc., a lambing hut sounds kind of cozy, ,for a coop.
