In after some advice please, I bought these worming tablets after reading advice in here.
However reading the label, it says withhold food for 24 hours before and 3 hours after. How do I do that without locking them up all day?

Mine are still sitting on the bench. Still not sure what to think about the not meant for birds used for food production in bold print.

Silkiechickstar, I use the Avitrol tablets and generally don't withhold food, actually I hide the tablet inside a kernel of corn or inside a pea ect. Ensures it goes down the correct way, as prying open the beaks of stubborn birds is not easy. I've not had a problem with it. The use of the Avitrol tablets for poultry is off-label, I found this link very helpful personally, as an emailed response from the manufacturer regarding giving the tablets to poultry is also available to read. I give my large birds who are 2kilo's each, 2 tablets, then 1/2 to a whole one for the bantams. It's made worming soooooo much easier.

Some fun for your girls in their new digs.   Had a look through many  of your photographs, and there is such an array of different chickens, egg colours etc.   And a couple of cats ( so far that I've seen ).  Will go back and finish looking.   Well done with the new run etc., a lambing hut sounds kind of cozy, ,for a coop.

I have indeed got 2 cats that hang out with the chooks. All the blue/green eggs were brought in or traded for, but I haven't yet got any hens that lay them.
They indeed like the lambing hit.

It's really only a disclaimer, the levamisole is licensed for use in poultry and praziquantel is used in human medicine. The poultry industry aren't prepared to pay for the testing required to certify it.

I am thinking seriously about going over to Avitrol for my birds, who do not like the 'pink' stuff I put in their drinking water. I have to measure, subtract the little that has been drunk, re-introduce - chuck a major hissy fit, and finally leave the pink stuff ( liquid Aristopet - levamisole hydrochloride appropriately dlluted ) in there for 36 hours.

NO withholding period for eggs ........... 7 > 10 days for meat.

Of course, in winter that doesn't work even more so. After that, having NO idea as to whether they are wormed or not ( even though I use non-toxic child friendly markers, to mark the ruddy water container !!! ) I leave it. "Hope you have been wormed ladies - here's a treat".

I am actually hoping someone can help me, with a worming solution that I can put ON food ... actual rice, oats and other goodies .... for each chicken. That way, I would ruddy-well know they are wormed.

Each girl would get a good tablespoon of goodies to eat ... although there is often a rucus if the two big girls cannot eat together. Locking one up with food, and leaving one out in the run with food, makes for a whole lot of protest, shrieks and noise. With little eaten. !!!

Have I spoiled them ? .........

Of course, I could stand out in the run with them ( probably in the rain ) and observe while they eat the ruddy lot. Which could take more than an hour ???, particularly if the two big girls are upset at not being able to share their goodies, and eat them together.

Worming chookies gives me the whatsits. Help !! ... if possible. I know there has been much conversation on here about worming mixtures / tablets etc. .... just don't have the time to scroll back through hundreds of posts to find answers.

Anniebee, I had the same problem. Agnes for a while refused to drink out of bowls after I dared put wormer in her water. Luckily she got the hang of bottles with nipples, and yes will drink out of bowls again now, but it was quite some time before she trusted them. I tried adding some wormer to food, I mixed it in rice as normally that's vacuumed up. It took three sessions of me offering the rice, for them to get enough of the wormer into them (and they needed too, it was xmas eve and Annabelle had some festive roundworms). I don't know of any colourless or flavourless wormers for water, if there are any. That pink water is enough to make them suss right off the bat. Give the avitrol plus tablets a go. They get the correct dose right away, none of that wondering if they've had enough. You can pop it into their beak, or like I mentioned, I hide it inside a bite sized piece of food. You could worm them in the morning after they've fasted overnight, then wait another 3 hours to give them their usual feed if concerned about the waiting period and food. I'm happy with it, and it works quickly if there is an infestation

I am currently being bothered by our house Pekin "Silvery". Someone gave me this - and I quote - 5 week old female Pekun bantam. He has huge wattles lol, I'm pretty sure it's a boy and certainly not 5 weeks old.

He is very attached to me keeps trying to make a nest in my hair, and makes a great try to escape to get to me when he can see me in the house lol.

Panacur is one that you can get through your vet in small quantities otherwise it comes in 1L bottles and probably isn't very cost effective for smaller flocks. You can syringe the dose into a piece of bread and roll it up. Its fenbendazol and also treats for tape worm. I use it as my rotational wormer, but I always have it for the goats and horses.
