Update on the phoenix chickens.
Turns out the person from 'Tasmania' was a scammer and used photos from a hatchery in America!!
I've found someone else in Queensland that hopefully has them so I can buy some eggs.

Update on my eggs (Eggs in incubator)
All 12 welsummer eggs were infertile so I've had to take them out.
I've got 12 eggs that are FERTILE left.
> 1 Plymouth Rock X leghorn. (Just to see what it looks like.)
> 11 Light Sussex
> 12 quail. But 5 of them had cracks in them so I had to patch them up.

She had 12 Light Sussex eggs under her and 6 of them hatched last Thursday. They are so cute!! I'll post some photos soon!!

Yes there are alot of dodgy sellers out there and as a lot of us know you only learn the hard way sometimes so lucky for you that you realized it was dodgy before you out laid any money.

hi Anniebee I bought myself a metal yard cart from Bunnings with drop down sides for about $70 to wheel my 20kg bags of chicken feed around. It has made it so much easier lifting straight from the boot onto the card and has saved my shoulder and back. The cart is capable of 250kg so I even put a couple on a time.

I can't wait to see the photos. Good luck with the eggs I hope you have a good hatch.  Not nice getting your hopes up and being scammed. I wish you were in Perth I have some Phoenix that I may have to give to a good home.
Anniebee  It's funny how our girls seem to find the most unlikely places to lay eggs. I sometimes wonder is they know if its coming or not.
I do a sort of deep litter with the pine shavings/chips. It works well especially now I have so many in the coop.

SilkieChickStar  Our beautiful black silkie was a male to we ended up having to rehome. It got noisier each day in the end it was crowing pretty much constantly. I have heard different things. Some say they don't crow very much. I hope yours is one that doesn't

Well so far he only crows in the morning if he hasn't been let out in time. He then seems to crow around lunch time when the parrots are having their squark fest that they do daily.

Time will tell though. I'd so love to keep him he's lovely

Dropping by to ask for advice on dog bites, cho takes it upon herself to get out of the run every morning, my new pup often chases her despite my attempts to deter her. This morning she managed to catch cho while I was out. I'm not proud of it but she got a decent smack when I found her!
Anyway I've got cho inside in a cat carrier I've looked her over, there's no deep punctures that I can see, pup was only playing after all, quite a few feathers on her back and breast missing and a couple shallow gashes, I've cleaned them with some diluted dettol as that's all I have on hand right now, just wondering what else I can do to help her recover, Ginny of course is broody again as is the pekin way so no eggs for me for a while I think!!

Keeping the wounds clean is the main thing. I use betadine normally but you can get stuff from the produce as well.

Hi. I'll bet you have a lot of posts to catch up on.
If you've got a syringe , it's best to irrigate the wound especially when it's a bite. It's important to get any traces of saliva out. Otiderm or Terramycin are good at keeping infection away.

Poor Cho I hope she gets better quickly. My nephew swears by betadine. His Maran hen was mauled by a cat he didn't expect her to live and with no vet were he lived he poured betadine into the wound and kept her isolated for 2 months, now you can't tell were she was hurt. She is one of the hens he's asked me to keep as she's special to him.

This is a new one for me. I noticed a growth on my silkie hens comb. It looked to be blocking her vision so I picked it off to reveal this.

After irrigating it and liberally spraying with Terramycin for 4 days she is looking better and back with the girls.
