I have done so in the past but just want to sing these guys praises again ..... http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/ I use them for the majority of my pet needs and find their prices very reasonable/competitive and they have specials quite often on half price shipping over certain $ amounts or free shipping, 25% off etc. I can not fault their service .. I ordered the Anitone on line at 10:30AM yesterday morning and it arrived at 10:00AM today!

Just one more question please? With the Anitone, I was thinking to just spray in on their brekkie, once a week, like on a Saturday or something as a supplement. Does that sound OK or should I be using it more regularly or only if I think they are off colour/stressed and might benefit from a dose?

At present I only use when I think they need a ' pick me up ' and when they are moulting. I think the recommendations are to supplement every 2-3 days. If you are happy to give it once a week, then I'd start there and adjust if required.

Yeah, I am sure Dusty would benefit from it when she is having one of her hard moults. Would probably be beneficial for a broody on the nest also.

Cool, I will start the weekly dose and see how we go.

LuLu is still doing OK, no further symptoms .. hopefully her symptoms were the result of that fall and not the cause.

Many thanks to Fancy and Teila ... for the advice about how much ACV to put into the water. It begins today.

Raining again, and very cold. ..... with approx. a week more of it forecast. The mud !!

.... this winter was supposed to be 'dry with little rain ' according to forecasters on TV ... and it has turned out to be anything but !! .... and the Spring was going to be dry too. hmmm. Even the BOM predicted a drier than normal winter.

Still and all, I am thankful that it has rained, rather than weeks without it.

Teila ....... that vetnpetdirect link you provided is fantastic. Have bookmarked it, after using the browser to access. My first purchase will be the Anitone - ( probably not for Mindy - she is hyper enough as it is !! ) ... she has laid 12 eggs in 12 days ... and I have told her that it is quite ok to have a day off.

I suspect the next step she will take will be to become broody - which will be delightful ( not )

as I could not 'broody break' her while it is raining. I usually lock her out of her coop and bare floored laying box - ( she doesn't do nests ) .... with food and drink in the run for 3 dry days. ... and lock her up at around 6 pm for the night. Might have to rethink the situation if she does as I suspect. Inside in a crate for 3 days. hmmmm again.

** And so pleased to hear that Lulu is doing ok now. Strange aren't they ? .... if anyone loves mystery - get chooks. LOL.

And yes, you might well have a super charged Chucky if he gets into the Anitone. !! Guessing it would be ok for a wild bird ?

Thank you Appps, Anniebee and Teila. It helps hearing from those who understand how much chickens can mean to you. What also helped today was Esme, who was Agnes' best friend. Even though broody (and sleeping in the clucky crate tonight), when I brought her out she spent time with me, jumping onto my lap and enjoying cuddles. The others went about their usual silly business, which was fine, but Ezzie also specifically spent time with me which was comforting. Didn't stop her pooping on my banana lounge like it was going out of style, but I didn't mind as much.

Teila, glad to hear LuLu's doing ok, I hope she has no more episodes Blondie sounds like she has a lot in common with Esme, I'm glad for the sunshine to dry the ground out. I took this photo after that heavy rain last week I think.



You can't fully see how filthy those feet are, but you get the idea. They require a good deal of rinsing and drying, accompanied by loud complaining, before bed.

Hi all. I have some sad news to report.

Yesterday on the vets advice I put Agnes to sleep. I was wrong, as her eyesight was not getting better, but continuing to deteriorate instead. She was also eating less and wanting to snuggle up and sleep most of the day. She still enjoyed dustbaths and such, and pecked at the grass, but the decline was increasing. What was causing the problem we don't know, but was likely something unique to her. The eyes were a symptom of a larger problem (due to the way eyes work in birds, like lymph nodes in people) that was unresponsive to the variety of treatments she'd been on. The eyes were also a bit sore for her, she kept her right one closed a fair bit. Even if she went blind there was still pain to consider and something else wrong with her that caused it, and how well she'd adapt (blood tests and such showed nothing unfortunately). My other birds are fine, and Aggie spent her time just going about her routine as best she could, with my help. She liked sitting with me at the computer on pillows, she was a house chicken when I first got her. I'm still very upset, and dealing with a wide range of emotions from guilt, anger,uncertainty, ect. She was only a year, but lead the ideal life for a chicken, free ranging with friends and spoilt. I'm still wondering if more could've been done, but likely it may at most have given some sort of diagnosis, not a cure. Despite all the medicine I subjected her too, she still was happy to snuggle up to me.  I'm still unsure if I did the right thing, as I guess it's still raw. I didn't hold back on money, that wasn't an issue, I tried all the vet and ophthalmologist suggested. It's just not fair I guess. I didn't do an autopsy for emotional reasons, and the others aren't in any immediate risk. Had she passed away suddenly, I would. That was my choice, and the vet agreed with it. I just went through a period of loss same time last year, and Agnes was the start of a better time, but it's repeated itself instead. So yeah, tough times at the moment.

The run is almost complete though, we've managed to wire and put the doors up, just the front panel needs doing and enclosing the sides under the roof. First nest/sleeping box is completely finished now too. Beatrice and Esme are also currently clucky, their cycles seem to be synced as they went clucky together last time too.

Fancy, sorry for your losses as well.

So sorry to hear about Agnes. You did the right thing for her as hard as that was to do I'm sure.
