Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

We saw our first tiger snake today today. Only 10 m from the chicken coops and 2 m from the goats.

Hi Everyone I from Victoria Australia, just signed up However I would like to do some outreaching, The Peafowl Enthusiasts Community in Australia would love to have access to new colour mutations in the Indian Blue Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) as we don't have much of variety like the rest of the world does please help us out and sign the petition as we would love to see more of variety and adding in New blood lines and gene pools to Australia so we can also celebrate these colours with everyone else but bringing in Diversity Safely

Thanks everyone

Happy to meet you. Good luck with the petition.

   Um ....

1) ... is ACV with 'mother', given every day to chickens, by all here who use it - or are there a few days in a fortnight that normal water only is given. ?  My girls are currently getting it every day, from now on.  ( now that I have the proper ACV !! ).  Is this correct ?

2) ... has anyone ever given Fish Oil capsules ( part of ) ... for Omega 3, to their chickens.   I went off statins for cholesterol, and replaced the statins with 2000 mg capsules once a day for a while.  I now still have a large container of 2000 mgs per capsule of Fish Oil ... which will take me forever to get through.   Since chickens like mackerel, tuna and sardines which is good for them - would capsule Fish Oil be ok ?  .... I am talking 5 > 10 drops of it only ( or whatever might be considered appropriate ) .... in their twice weekly rice and goodies mash.  ?   Can then share 1 capsule between the chickens, Ruby dog, and myself !!  ... Any ideas on that please.

3) .. am offering Mandy yoghurt every other day ( post anti-biotics ) as a pro-biotic.   She flatly refused the yokult - but loves picking into yoghurt.   I have to separate the two big girls for that, as Molly would hog the lot and push Mandy out of the way.   I feel I have to be careful with yoghurt for her though, as it is extra calcium, after all.

Should she be offered yoghurt every day or only a few times a week - as a probiotic ?

:he  and another 'Um'     ....about  Mandy the conundrum !!  .... continued next post.

I have never given a chicken fish oil but i am sure it would be fine to use in small doses. On a side note about fish oil. Our cat who is 16 in December has just started to show slight signs of arthritis. I give him i capsule a day over his wet food. (vets advice) and it seems to be doing him the world of good.

Welcome.

Good morning folks

MyHaven and Anniebee as Fancy mentioned, the Princesses did not detect the Anitone on their food so it definitely might be worth a try.

Did I mention they are fussy?

This morning’s breakfast was lettuce, carrot, corn and peas which they usually enjoy. Today, I mixed in some alfalfa sprouts .. they came, they looked, they walked away!

SilkieChickStar your Conures are beautiful. Congrats on the new layer.

LuckysMum Congratulations on the bubs .. looking forward to the pictures. I agree with MyHaven watching mumma with her babies is the best entertainment .. so beautiful!

Fizzybelle tee hee, poor little possums, bet they do not do that again in a hurry

Anniebee I add ACV to my girls’ water every day but this is a personal choice. Having said that, when it is particularly hot, it is advised to skip the ACV as it is reported to inhibit calcium absorption during high heat. What I usually do in summer is have one water container with ACV and one with fresh water.

Nope, sorry, never tried Fish Oil Capsules.

Yoghurt is a special treat, may be once or twice a year or, as mentioned, post antibiotics or if someone is exhibiting crop issues.

I hope the Avian Vet is able to determine if something does ail Mandy or if this is just one of her quirks.

Fancy eeew, snakes!

Never seen one here and very much do not want to!

Mine get their omega 3 's every Friday in the form of mackerel in oil. The dogs get a ration too.

Although some people use access constantly it can reduce calcium absorption and can also lead to gout in some cases.
I find that only using it every second day or 2 or 3 days a week provides the most benefit.

I lost 2 x hens in the last few weeks . My dear old gold laced Wyandotte was in her 10 th year and I buried her under a lovely pink flowering cherry.
The other was a silver laced Wyandotte, I think she fell from the perch as she had a swelling on the side of her head and was off balance before I separated her from the flock.
In good news Toby the goat is back up on his feet after several administrations of Terramycin to that abscess in his hoof.
I might add that I enjoy this thread and find everyone to be kind and respectful, a little quirky and sometimes cheeky but that is what makes it an Aussie thread.

A late condolence. It's always emotional loosing old friends.

I'm glad the goat is ok.
