How to teach kids to put the Roos in place… I do this with my kids and roosThankyou everyone!
I had a whoopsie!! I have my incubator running and now i have 3 broody hens sitting on eggs! Here's to hoping i get lots of chicks running around over the next 3 weeks!!
Also @Poultry mum I've just had to start night boxing my 2 Roos they have started crowing at 4.30am! Naughty boys!
Anyone have any tips on Roos with children?
My 2 kids love collecting the eggs but can't go in the coop atm because the boys are all riled up with mating season and keep attacking them. They don't bother me though because they are use to me now.. they tried to go me a few times previously but i just pushed them away and stepped towards them as i read that it shows them your their dominant and i also pick them up in the coop since apparently that does it too not sure if theres any truth in that but they don't show any aggression towards me anymore!
Will they settle after spring? They never attacked anyone until recently.
They are a bit over 12 months old now and i hatched them out of eggs i was given so they were handled alot and were usto the kids going into the coop previously!
Thanks heaps i will have to give it a try!! And let you know how it goes!!How to teach kids to put the Roos in place… I do this with my kids and roos
1) teach them that funny rooster dance and when they roo coming for them tell them to do the rooster dance.
2) if rooster dance doesn’t work.. tell them not to run away from the roo but to chase him. Put both “wings” out head down and charge! Just like he does.
3) if he is able to be caught then get the kids to catch him when chasing and give him lots of “gradma” kisses and hugs and pats…. Lol… no teenage boy wants to be smothered in mummy, or sibling love…!!!
i have used these techniques with my arunacana boy and with my silkie boy.. they do work… you have to change your thinking from “aggressive rooster” to “hormonal teenage boy” once you get to that you won’t have an issue!…![]()
