Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Well my little cute moment for today. Went out this morning to check on my bantie cochin that has was due to hatch. She was determined to sit and only had 2 bantie eggs so i gave her 2 brahma eggs as well. She was out running around with one baby. You guessed it she hatched a brahma. Gunna be so funny in a few weeks when the chick is bigger than her lol. She is the tinest little cochin. Tried to get pics this morning but she was having none of it lol. Will try again later this arvo when J gets home from school.

lol Satay! You and I are similar in this, you have your Brahma hatched under a small Cochin and I have 3 Malay game hatched under a small silkie! It's going to be funny watching them grow! I will post a picture too, look forward to seeing yours!

Here is Silkie Mum with two of the Malays when they were only a couple of days old - Little does she know what monsters they are going to turn into!!

Oh how sweet are they wooklet. No luck with the picture yet. Had J try to help me yesterday arvo but she would not let us get even close enough for a picture.Cochins are one fiesty mumma. I do think wooklet both our mumma hens are going to be in for a shock how quick their kids grow in a few weeks lol.

Congratulations ! I'm wasnt a duck fan till it saw yours!

Wooklet they are adorable. I can wait to see more baby photos - wish I had enough room for some more.

I hope not to be a stranger and be on a bit more now.... Oh and my lorp crosses are laying petit White eggs LOL took their
sweet time !

IamSamSam - Welcome back! Sorry to hear of your Bronchitis, hope that it clears up soon - been a lot of nasty bugs around this year. Funny,it seemed to take ages for the chicks to start laying this year, and now suddenly I am SWAMPED with eggs-only so many you can eat,and incubate! Do you have Bantam Australorps or the large ones?
Would have posted more pictures but the battery ran out on the camera,so now have to wait until I go into town. Hubby made me the BEST broody box,it has a glass window and I can watch the chicks getting up to all their games, and they can watch us. It really is fabulous! I will post a picture of it soon. Also found that the cat litter that is made up of paper pellets is much better than anything for broody litter,it doesn't smell, doesn't get wet,it is non toxic, and if they should eat it,(which they don't)it dissolves into little pieces. It doesn't make a mess like shavings either.

Thanks Wooklet, I hope I'm over it soon too. I am sick of illness and cold and rain !

My girls are huge! approx 4 to 5 kg. I believe they are Wyandotte cross Austrolorp due to the lacing on Roo's chest. I will get a pic and post later today. They dwarf the Isa's I have. Hubby says they would make a great roasting chook ! (He has buckleys of that happening. between 4yo and myself

)

This has been a nasty strange year for sure ! I am getting 4 eggs a day from 5 hens. The very old girl isn't laying but she is the nicest of them all so I keep her as a pet.

My boys love my Nans Deviled Eggs - I can use a dozen easily every time I make them. Very simple too, hard boil the eggs cut them down the middle (point tip to bottom) scoop the yolk into a bowl add keens curry and good mayonnaise use fork to mix and mash well and heap yolk back in to egg whites. sprinkle with smoky paprika or sweet Hungarian paprika and your done ! yum.

FUNNY you should mention the paper organic cat litter because thats what I use in the tray under my coop. Its good because I add it to my veggie garden. Its brilliant. Breaks down 100 times quicker than shavings or straw.

Back Later !

Sorry everyone no pics of the baby yet. Have been having major problems with the next door neighbours dog again getting in trying too attack my animals. It got 2 of my ducks last week a black muscovey (one of the babies from early this year) and my only welsh harliquin. Unfortunately our council is as useless as and after call number 4 to them in a matter of weeks. They came around yesterday and collected the dogs coat that it had left behind in the last attack. The council guys seemed to only care that they had now registered the dogs (they have 2 but we only have an issue with one of them) and not really care that it is still getting in attacking my animals. I am thinking of now going along the lines of electric fence on the side fence between our place and theirs but not sure if I am legally allowed to do that so will have to do more looking into it.

Iamsamsam your girls are beautiful, they look really heathy and I love the blue. Do you have a rooster? I can't remember, sorry!

satay I am SO sorry to hear that you are having trouble with that dog again,I know what you mean about Councils, when 2 Rotties attacked my puppy a while back, all they seemed to be worried about was getting the dogs registered. Sometimes you have to take the law into your own hands, if it was my poultry I certainly would. 'Nuff said! I am sorry you have lost your little birds, though,it must be devastating!
