I meant BFFL, not BBFL. sorry for the confusion.

Candling is when you shine a bright light/torch through the egg. It allows you to see what's happening inside the egg. So when you candle an egg that's incubating you can see the chick inside. That's how some people determine if an egg is good to keep incubating or if it is clear or a quitter and you need to chuck it out.

ray's two cents :

I used to get 10 hours per night, but that made me irritable and always tired.

Ray. I think you may have just made me the happiest gal EVER. or maybe not. I'm not quite sure at the moment.
I thought I was the only one who had this very strange problem. The more I sleep the tiered I get. If I sleep too much one night then the next day I feel like a zombie might feel if they existed.

Them getting a big crop is nothing to worry about. It's normal. If it's not ever full it means they're not eating enough. If their crop is filled to the max ( chickens sometimes do this if they've been deprived of food for awhile, then have an all you can eat buffet set in front of them) they will just stand still looking a bit miserable and do this wierd swallowing thing. I'll try and explain it. Say if you had something stuck in your neck and were trying to swallow it down. Oh I'm lousy at expainin things but you'd know it when you see it. But even then it's alright. They just won't have to eat for awhile.

It's OK I know exactly the wierd swallowy thing you mean - she does it whenever her crop is massive (surprise surprise) I was worried at first then realised what she was doing. Glad I don't have to lock her away from the food. So much to learn!

Good luck with the candling. I hope they're all alive and kicking. But not too hard or they might bust out
