Ducky , you may remember the picture I posted of my 3 little Malay chicks a few months back, have a look at them now! They all weigh nearly 2 kilos! And they are so TAME, follow me everywhere, sit on my lap, they look so scary but they are so placid!
Just thought I'd post their pic for all to see - I'm one proud Mum!

They are very cute wooklet. I had to move things around today as the chickens decided they want to follow the ducks out of the shed in the morning. There are still to small to be freeranging- but they still want to forage around. They had the night pens to themselves during the day recently- but are getting much bolder now- and with going back to work next week I wanted to make sure they will be safe.

Oh.. and the polish- we are fairly sure now that the blue is a male- but the two whites are females. I will have to take some more photos of them for you . One of the whites has such a large crest already we think its already time to break out the hair ties to get the crest out of her eyes.

The hair ties I shall look forward to seeing a photo of! Well, at least you have 2 girls. I haven't got rid of my Polish altogether , I still have the white bantams, and will probably keep them, as the 2 hens are very sweet, not so sure of the Rooster!! He scratched my face the other day when I was giving him his worming tablets, not agressive, just in a panic, something he is prone to,lucky I was wearing glasses, because the scratch is by my eye.
Sound like your property took a bit of a hit with the weather, sorry to hear that, but carpets can be replaced,as can roads. At least you and the duckies were o.k.
BTW , loved the pics of your new duckies!

Ha! You have good taste,Elizabeth! My husband said something along similar lines - except he used Dinosaurs, however, he is now hooked on them. Their name in Malay actually means gentle giant! Only thing I would recommend to people who have them is handle them lots and tame them when they are young chickens, because with those long legs you could spend a lot of time chasing them! (And lose) Mine just come running when they see me,and follow me into their coop when it is time to go to bed. You can actually get Bantam Malays, although rare, but there is someone in Queensland I think who has them as I have seen them advertised on Backyard Poultry. I LOVE Golden pheasants, there is a man just up the road from me who breeds them - maybe I could arrange some eggs for you when the season comes around? Except then you would have to get an incubator? Hehe - welcome to the world of chooks!!

Oh I am in love! YES I would love eggs! and it's okay, husband said I could get an incubator!! And, y'know, just for shipping's sake you might as well throw a few of those beautiful malay eggs in there.....

Awww, Elizabeth, why not?Won't be for a couple of months yet, but we'll keep in touch! Now you'll get the incubator bug - something else I taught my husband - and then regretted, we ended up with dozens of his Barnevellders running around, he managed to sell most of them, how-ever, what is left is several Roosters and this place is bedlam in the mornings! But I'm glad you are getting an incubator, Ducky lost the off switch for hers, and I came close! It's a great thing to be into!

KyleE-how's the weather in your neck of the woods?

This is my other Malay pullet - she is about 8 weeks older than the others, just as friendly. Called "Dyna" short for Dinosaur!
