Would you believe one last lot of eggs and the incubator will be turned off!!! They are due to hatch in about 10 days. I could buy in some eggs- just for the fun of hatching as my girls are mostly molting. I get 1-2 eggs a day still but Stevie- Ray and Flippy are the two laying mostly . One of my Harlequin girls is just starting up again - but I need a rest for a while. I have 29 little ones all under 4 weeks old at the moment- and I have to go back to work next week.

Out of interest Ducky, how long has it been since you turned it off?? Mine is off, but all my hens are sitting on eggs, and there are STILL babies popping out everywhere!
How're you going? Back to work next week, hope you had a good break and manged to get a bit of time off for yourself! Nice and hot here today, was glad when that cool change blew through! So were the chickens - except the Malays, they LOVE sunshine and hot weather, and can be found flat out in full sun like sunbathers on the Riviera!

Argh- is anyone else experiencing the horrible heatwave blowing in from the west? I am, in Sydney

35 degrees now....

My poor ducklings are raising themselves! the four hens and duck are still hatching more eggs. I was worried the ducklings wouldn't leave and would starve but they just went exploring on their little own were eating out of the big feeder! None of the other chickens seem to mind. Yay! Babeh ducks. They're the cutest, especially when they try to swim in puddles.

Magic pigeon - this is why I came to Tassie, couldn't stand those heatwaves. Hope you are getting through it o.k.!

I believe that you can now put youtube videos in your posts? Anyone explain to me how to do that

Well officially I have turned two off.. The original I bought- and also the second Hovabator I used as a hatcher. but I swapped eggs from the hova straight to the IM when I bought it- so all told... I bought the first incubator in August 2009 and it there has only been three weeks since that time that I had no eggs slow cooking. so out of 74 weeks- it has been on for 71.

A few more days to go until the IM is turned off too.. Last eggs are due to hatch on Sunday- there is ten.. And wouldnt you know it..... 1 of my Harlequin girls has finished molting and is laying again.
I will resist. I really need a break before I set any more eggs. I have an Auction coming up at the end of the month- so will clear a few of the current extras then. I think maybe 2 months minimum break will be good.

As for the heat.. it got up to 39.5 degrees in the warehouse area where I work today. I was about to go tell my supervisor I was going home when it started to cool down a bit- so I stuck it out for the day. We are currently haivng an air conditioning system installed into the warehouse/ service area- just in time for the cool change

isnt it always the way. They had two of the 4 units going for a few minutes today and I am told at should be fully operational by Thursday. I cant wait.. It horrible trying to work in those kind of temperatures.

Oh..and as for Youtube..no idea..My daughter would know...But I havent even put a video on there- so would have a clue how to post one on here.

Just putting this out there:

My Hamburg hen isn't laying yet but once she's done with her moult she probably will (a week or two?). My husband and I can't have the chicks just yet, we've got 6 months until the new property is ready. (2 acres, near the city, cheap as **** and 300m to my hubby's work!)

Would anybody, once the eggs come, want some? Since I only have one layer, I'd probably have to send them in sets of 4 or 5, but I'd still like to see someone else try to hatch them...

I would be interested in some of your eggs when they start laying for sure. I only have one hamburg left and would love to get a few more. And I would love some of wooklets malay eggs if you ever have any for sale. I have one malay that was given to me years ago. We call her amazon as my son thinks she looks like something out of the amazon jungle lol. She is brown like the one you have posted pics of.
