Australians - Where are you all????

The snow is for Hobart - they can keep it! It's a few hundred miles from us!

At least we are not flooded, blown away or being struck by earthquakes - what a really tragic summer it has been!

Sounds like you had a really good day at the auction, and don't worry that you couldn't get the price of the Malays - I was just curious. Ani Trans is bringing me 4 of them in April, so I will be well catered for.
Your new duckling sounds really nice - photo , please! And congrats on getting that price for your Wyandotte, she must have been nice. The silver laced are pretty.
What are the silkies you have left? I am looking for bearded girls, if that is what they are - Ani Trans could bring them over in April? Just a thought.
I agree with you about a safe venue for breeders to show their chickens, I hate people coming in-for both security and health reasons, I always put what they want to buy in cages on the front lawn so that people don't go in the back where the pens are.

The silkies are a white male and an ugly black female- she really does look shocking. I did know of a great breeder of beardeds- but sadly he sold them all recently because of ill health. I did see the set up in Ani Trans ' Van- very professional, I do have to send some ducks up to QLD in a few months and hope the purchaser will arrange it through him. He was talking at the time I saw him- so didnt want to disturb him to ask where his birds may have been situated in the shed.

Here is the new little one.. Currently has no name- but she is they sweetest little thing. She looks so tiny in with the older Runners- but at least she has some company.

How adorable!! Love the little crest! Just like a little powder puff on the top of her head! Her legs look very short, is she a miniature? Thanks for putting that up.

I've heard nothing but good things about Ani-Trans, hope his chickens are as good as his reputation!

lol...its not a Runner!!! Little legs...yes it a " normal " duckling. I am still trying to get used to it. Its so cute..and tiny in comparison to the Runners she lives with.

lol..OK.. I just talk about my Runners so much- I forget that people may actually know I have other breeds as well. I still cant get used to her... that squat little body. She is very quiet- hardly makes a sound at all. She will be a standard sized duck- but a bantam crested sure would be cute.

Sadly I think my little blue and white duckling is a male

I was so hoping it would be a girl too. He now has feather growing in the " crest" which is actually half way down the neck- it looks very strange to see- and especially the colour of the feathers as they have some light brown in them too. I will have to get an updated photo of him too..so Cute.

ok..so its not a great photo... But you can still see how far down his neck the " crest " is... I cant wait til he finished growing.

Looks like he is wearing one of those fluffy scarves! It will be interesting to see how he turns out!

One of the black silkies I got from Victoria has turned out to be blind! I will keep her, but you have had experience with blind ducks haven't you? I actually have found her a little friend so tshe is not alone, and she knows where her food is, any other tips you can give me?

So sorry to hear that. I know that they can have sight issues due to their crests- but being flat out blind is entirely different. Only thing I can really say if make sure food and water is always in the same place. Routine will be important to her- and she will most likely rely more on her hearing- so talk to her when you approach.

The count down is on....only a few more days before I can put some eggs into the incubator. !!!!

Slowly selling the remaining duckies- I have said to a number of people that I dont have any available at the moment as I just dont want to part with too many more too quickly. I am still getting 3-4 enquiries about ducks each week- so at least I know people still want them as we head into cooler weather. But I do have a dilemma... A man from the Poultry club- who travels a huge distance to come to the meetings and functions- has 6 ducks hat he cant keep anymore. I have said I can help him- but only to house them here at a better pick up point than where he lives. No idea what breed- but he has told me they are 2 drakes and 4 ducks- so at least that will make them easier to find homes for. I will post some picks of the temporary boarders when they arrive.
