Ray - your girls look super cute - there's the camera girls, quick, strike a pose. Very proud healthy happy looking hens. I've named one of mine Raptorchook cos she did her best to take a good chunk out of me. Silverbeet not good enough for that madam at that moment. Gotta plant more, almost wiped my stocks out. Which reminds me your run looks fab! How come its still green? Mine doing extra good job of land clear!

Really nice day yesterday and had a boy over doing heavy garden work and I helped. Stuffed today tho planted some more silverbeet and bought pkt seeds to plant for da girls. Looking to be a little hot for me today and tomorrow. Phew! Hopefully the girls will manage.

Followed upload instructions but can't get to work. Have more photos on phone to download IF THAT'S SAFE! Eeek! Will try again soonish. Frustrating. Love chooks hate technology I reckon.

They are a month old.
These little ones chirp so much. Quite high pitched too. I've had lots of chicks and these ones are by far the most talkative. They have also been making this beautiful little purring noise

Chookin: Thanks! They are really curious when it comes to cameras: see or hear something odd and they always stand up straight like that!

We usually have to fence off all the veggie patches to keep 'em out: we have silverbeet, cabbage, lettuce, all sorts! The greenery you see in their run is mostly nettles. The chooks LOVE the seeds that come off them during summer, and they usually die every year in the heat so we don't bother dealing with them anymore

Oh yeah, the nettles

Although the rate the RSLs go, they aren't too far off

The ones you see at the front of the gate are still in the height of their youth, probably why they look so good!

Ok Ray. Spit it out! What's ur experiences with RSLs re lifespan and how old r urs by the way? And why three?

We have three because one of them died (at age three, most of them start to slow down) and we can't keep more than four at a time

We also don't like to buy one chick on its own, we've always bought in pairs so they can have someone their own age to "hang out" with.

Not enough space, and we wouldn't know what to do with the eggs

Egg-laying usually lasts for two years, then stops. Although the old one you see in the photo, in the background, seems tobe hanging on to youth longer than most.
