Hey, we'll have to DNA that bird. Perhaps there is some Orpington in the mix.

Tony, you will have to get some Australorp eggs! These birds are a real joy to keep. So personable and interesting. Smart too. I have a hen that knows that when I am in the coop and run, and the wind is stiffly blowing, as long as I have not locked the door behind me, the wind will blow the door open. She will wait there until the door blows open just enough to escape out! LOL This door is heavy mind you. And it slams shut hard. So she has to be quick. And it doesn't blow open far either! She also has to hop over 3 2x4's stacked for the base of the wall and door stop, 2 side up. So she watches the door blow and when it looks like she can get her heavy fat body out the door, out she scoots!! LOL I will be cleaning in the run or something and will see all the other hens pacing along the inside looking anxious. Out of the corner of my eye, there is the escapee, free ranging her self while the others look on in pure jealousy! The others are just not smart enough to figure out just how she got out.

Hens are always the most friendly. They are the lap sitters. LOL Most Aussie roos are pretty docile for the most part, but of course, you can always get a crazy roo from any breed. Just depends on the bird I suppose.

Leyla ,Hi. Can't find any Australorps eggs in uk at this time of year . I want to start now so I can breed my own next year. What do you know about Jersey's ? I know they look the same, apart from their FEET

Tony, Jersey Giants are just like over grown Black Australorps. LOL There is a lady on here, theoldchick, that keeps Jerseys. They are very friendly, sit all over her lap, arms, her roos are very docile. She just love them to pieces. I thought they were Black Australorps until she corrected me on it. That is how much alike they are. A bit bigger, but that is all.
