Solanacae
Crowing
I recently acquired two hens from a friend who was downsizing her flock. Both are “Australorps” at least according to the feed store employee. One of them is pretty typical of an Aussie, but the other has feathered feed and a markedly different texture on her underfluff. She has a greenish tinge on her head, neck, and some of her back, but the lower down you go, the more brown undertones there are. I’m curious to see opinions on what else genetically may be at play here. I’m not breeding, I’m just curious to figure out a puzzle as best I can. I’m not an experienced chicken keeper, but my guess is there’s some Cochin . . . looking at the poof in front of the tail and the feather texture lower down on her body. Thoughts?
