One of my two australorps. Other one is a very obvious male. This one was my hopeful female. I'm starting to lose hope. What do you think? She/He is about 9.5 weeks.

They free range so getting a standing shot never seems to work out. They're always blurry.

Why are you losing hope? That looks like a fine hen. I have a 3 1/2 month pullet that looks identical.

The comb and wattles would fit a pullet at 9.5 weeks, so don't lose hope. A side profile picture of the body would help.

I have an Australorp pair slightly older than this one. This looks very much like my Pullet. My cockerel was obvious very early.

Thanks all!! Yay!! I'm going to try to get a picture of the other one and see what you all think. I think it's a boy but now I'm not so sure.

My Australorp for example just turned 3 months in this picture and turned out to be a hen. Already a 1.5 years and lays eggs everyday.

Comparing a 3-3.5 month old to a 9.5 week old is comparing apples to oranges. I would expect a lot more comb and wattle development by now if it were a cockerel. So you've very likely got a pullet. If its a cockerel its VERY slow developing, but I really doubt its a cockerel.
