That is for sure. I had an exchange some long while back about coop design with someone who lives (IIRC) in Minneapolis. Their chicken zoning requires the coop be kept at 34F or above year round. Clearly a rule made by someone who doesn't know that chickens have down coats they wear year round.

What is the best and cheapest way to keep heat in? Keep outside air out.

What is the best way to kill your chickens with ammonia and have frostbite issues? Keep outside air out.

That is amazing someone would think a chicken needs 34 degrees to survive. Obviously a graduate of the Metro University program for bleeding heart liberal care of birds.......

I wonder if you could put them in little chicken jumpers like they knit for rescue ones and say yes it's slightly cooler than 34 but it's ok, they are wearing their winter woollies lol. Beurocrats wouldn't know what to do lol

Some people do put sweaters on chickens ...They could at least color coordinate with the chickens natural color

I know her intentions are good, but do you think it keeps them warmer or colder? How can they "fluff" their feathers to control their temps when they are wearing something that holds their feathers down?

And what happens when the chicken gains a couple ounces and needs a new sweater?

Does she make mukluks for them too?

Yeah I think they are great for the poor bald rescue chickens or super bad molted naked ones while regrowing feathers so unable to keep that warm air layer as bald but the average chicken has evolved to cope without needing sweaters lol. I think they just use them on ones too bald to be able to fluff themselves up like these guys. Might protect new feather growth from pecking by the others a bit too.
400

The byline says she was knitting for rescue ones but I don't think the chickens in her photo are very needy looking lol. Not breeds generally associated with battery farming, I think they got picked for their cuteness factor :)

That is what I was going by too, I would assume a bald chicken could use it.

They dont like them either .. as far as I can tell ...I had a hen who was bare backed all winter ..
I tried to put something on her she hated it ....it never seemed to bother her to not have feathers on her back

i realize sweaters is a girlie thing ..and most of you are guys...
Here is some eye candy I bought ..Appenzeller Spitzhauben
I had 2 ...unfortunately a skunk killed my other baby ..a cockeral ...while they were in my fenced in garden by themselves..

So I just have Cutie..my constant companion
