They're so pretty! I have 9 Aussies I hatched out. They're in a pen with my adult Buff Orpingtons and my one EE hen Julia. I know for almost all are roosters, but I'm hopeing for at LEAST 2-4 hens!

I'll be keeping the best 1-2 BA roosters and selling or butchering the ones that I don't keep.

Hey everyone!! I have a bird that came in a batch of EE eggs I bought. It hatched from a brown speckled egg. I was thinking it was a rooster but someone said they thought it was an Australorp pullet. I have no idea so I am here!

Here are some pics of her:

Around 5 weeks old

and now around 9 weeks old.

I was thinking rooster because of the bendy tail feathers and redness in the face.

Thanks for the opinions

Hi ItsAZ0032,

The eye and leg colors are wrong--eyes should be black legs should be grey. Could be a Jersey Giant or a mix of BA and something else.

Looks like a hen to me.

Could be a mix since it came from an EE guy.. No idea. The legs are kind of a slate/grey color in patches but have a yellowness here and there as well

Tractor store gets their chicks from hatcheries close to them. The ones here in Woodland, CA(Close to Sacramento--Northern) come form Ideal in Texas.

Your chickens look like a mix with Wyendott?

My BA's came from Cackle Hatchery. One of them has frizzle feathers on the back. The other four have regular feathers.

Do they lay eggs yet? The egg color might help figure what the mix is. I bet they will be great layers regardless of how they look. Hatchery chickens are bread more for production than for a standard.
