That is definitely a Matter of opinion. I have seen some that looked like a Black Leghorn to me. I think once you have seen what a True BA can look like many BA's take on a different look. I know!! We all think our chickens are Beautiful! If you prefer to be like that then my advice is it is Best to stay home! You might get your eyes opened.

Hi, we are setting ourselves up to be self reliant and we just got out first 5 Austrolorp chicks which are 2 weeks old. We are really looking for eggs first and meat second as well as breeding them to sustain our flock. We are already enjoying their chickeny ways and have also been given an 8 week old Austrolorp too. I was wondering when we should put them together? I was thinking when the chicks are about 8 weeks. When should I allow them to really free range? I have an enclosed part of our property for them while they are young.

I also want to go as organic as I can with their feed, i want to breed meal worms for extra protein. Has any one ever gone commercial feed free?
