Australorps breed Thread

How old are yours in the pics? Mine are still in the house, getting bigger by the hour! I've just got to move them out on to the porch brooder pen, but with temps down to 33 or so at night I just can't risk it. They are 4 weeks old now, but man are they big for their age!! They're not really "fighting" but every once in awhile I hear squaking and carrying on...I go over to the brooder box and all four just look up at me with this innocent look on their faces...aaack!!

I have 3, three week old chicks that I put in a wire dog cage, and set them outside for a couple hours yesterday. I slid the bottom tray about 3/4 of the way out, so their waterer was there with them, and I put some grit on the tray too. I was right there the whole time, so they were safe, and I could move the cage as the sun moved, so they had partial shade. It took them an hour to overcome their fear and get off the little bit of tray, but once they figured out that the grass wouldn't hurt them, they had a blast. Today I'm going to put hardware cloth around the cage, and repeat.

I'm so jealous that where you live (?) is warm enough to let your girls out for some sunshine. Here? Not so much. We're still getting down to the low 30's at night, highs in the 50's and if that isn't bad enough, this morning when I went out to replenish their feeder with fresh chick start there was SNOW on the ground.....WHAT???

G'day folks,
some pics of some girls that I bred last season. They're still young and have some developing to do, but I'm quite pleased with them. They were made from a cockerel from the breeder of the bird in my avatar with some of my best girls from the previous season. Seem to be getting some consistency in the back curve.
Happy hatching Geoff
