Australorps breed Thread

you might head over to tractor supply and set some stall mats under your run to head off digging under.

We set up a hardware cloth apron around the outside where there is bare dirt butted up to the fence. We haven't had a problem since we did that. The rest of the run has a floor in it. :)

We also nailed plywood against the fence where they roost to prevent little cat and raccoon paws from reaching in and grabbing any of the birds while they snooze.

Thanks for the advice! :)

Greetings all :). Hope to be joining you soon, have got a dozen splash blue black mix eggs on their way as I type. Fingers crossed they arrive tomorrow and our little silkie can hatch me out a girl in each colour to keep.

We had a black hatchery girl about ten years ago and she was such a great hen with the kids, hopefully these hatch and are just as friendly.

Yes they are Aussie Aussies even :). She is supposed to have very good quality birds so I am really hoping they survive the shipping. I will be very nervously checking the mail today. If they don't arrive this morning they will be sitting in transit till Monday which makes for a long trip since they were posted Tuesday

Well they arrived!! Huge sigh of relief!!

I've got one obvious cracked that I'll throw.
Two damp ones that were next to it. They appear okay but if that's leaked egg on them from it will that be an issue?

And the rest look good at first glance. I've sat them all big side up then had to rush out the door so will candle tonight when its darker to look for more cracks.

Use warm water--about Tepid a bit warmer than the egg to gently rise off the egg goo from the eggs that have it on them. Try to leave the bloom on the eggs.

Candle the eggs and check for micro cracks. Watch them carefully too--eggs that were badly packed like these were will often start seeping over the next 10 days.
