Do not worry about it now. They are still young--the face should be red but often is not because they are not up to standard.

We picked up 3 BAs & 1BJG but they all have white feet. One got caught by the dog and we're left with these 3 ladies. We think they are all 3 BAs, but one of them has a darker face. Now out of these 3, we get to keep one and they are all so sweet, we can't decide.

Do you have other chickens too? Just checking you weren't planning to just keep one by itself

We have 6, but promised 2 of the Black Australorps to a friend. Raised them all from day olds, now it's hard to let any go.

They do very well--They are dark egg laying chickens and lay a lot more than Marans.

Henderson's chicken chart give both penedesenca and australorp 4 eggs for egg laying so they are the very close to each other.

302 pages is alot to read through, so forgive me if this has already been covered?
I live just outside Phoenix AZ. I assumed that the Australorp originated in Australia, and would deal with heat without a ton of trouble. Is it a good breed for this desert?

I live south of Tucson and my Australorps have laughed at the heat. I make sure they have shade, fresh water, and I wet down some of the ground for them at least once per day and they're happy as can be...still laying large eggs daily to every other day. Mine are hatchery stock, not pure, and are still amazingly resilient in this heat.
